This will be a really challenging year for the Norris trophy, considering that there’s being special emphasis put it on the defensive side of the game for this years selection. Zack Werenski is struggling defensively and is running away with the NHL lead in turnovers per game with 118 in 73 games and is only +7. 😬 Cale Makar is having a rough go as well and leads the entire NHL in turnovers leading directly to goals scored against with 11. 😳 With both of these candidates performing so poorly this year, we may need to go back to points as a differentiator like we did in previous years. Especially if there is a far and away front runner in points (12% more points than 2nd place and Top 10 in ALL NHL scoring 🤯) that has missed no games (Ironman) and had top teammates (Draisaitl) injured for significant time. Unfortunately, he does play for the Oilers so his mistakes get special attention, Oilers media likes to scold their young players publicly, and clips of his mistakes will shared widely by rival teams fan bases. BUT if we ignore those biases there is an obvious winner this year. 🏆
