Like @SeatSixtyOne, I follow a platonic realist ontology regarding names. This means that if you have something called X and you change its name to Y, then it doesn't cease to be X, because changing a name does nothing to the underlying nature of what that name refers to.
The Man in Seat 61@seatsixtyone

So the York Royal Station Hotel, aka Principal Hotel, is now the Milner Hotel. I've given up & re-written that section using its proper name "Royal Station Hotel", immune from all future name shenanigans (don't get me started on Snickers, it's MARATHON!) #Hotel_in_York" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">seat61.com/london-to-york…

The élites detest you. They haven't always detested you, but they choose to do so now.

@PastGlasgow How could this happen so soon after a lengthy refurbishment? In an affluent part of the South Side, no less…

@RaymondDuck6 @rcolvile ...care about their own profits. The UK's lack of investment, for instance, is actually mostly driven by huge underinvestment in the private sector. They happily sit on rent rather than investing or doing anything useful, and our regulatory system lets them get away with murder.

@Zaphod2042 A fair point, and there are still twin tracks in use on the City Union Bridge, but it was originally built in 1898 for quadruple track. You can see where the space would be ideal for it on the right-hand side from the old curve that once carried the tracks into St. Enoch Station.

A brilliant project in Manchester. I would love to see this emulated in Glasgow by using the City Union Bridge over the Clyde between the Briggait and the Citizens Theatre, as well as the old Dumbarton line at Partick Central, linking Kelvingrove Park to the Govan-Partick Bridge.
Castlefield Viaduct@NTCastleDuct

🥁 Drum roll please.... 😁 We’re chuffed to reveal our plans for Phase 2 of Castlefield Viaduct. We want to extend Manchester’s sky park to the full 330 metre length of the historic structure.👉 Click here for more info: bit.ly/3XV7b0D #everyoneneedsnature #citygarden

@PaulJSweeney @PJFerguson18 While the loss of jobs and industrial heritage is sad, it is a very large site. Would it be a viable residential area in future (riverside amenity, etc), or does proximity of BAE and other industrial units make this awkward?

It's very sad to see the likely end of Albion Motors after 125 years. I am working with @PJFerguson18 to ensure that the workforce is fully supported and that we secure a decent industrial future for one of Glasgow's greatest heavy engineering facilities. news.stv.tv/west-central/a…

@honeydewgrl @paulisci Alternatively, could be regarded as evidence that we’ve been on a century-long decline in clothing standards.

@AuDebutGateau @archi_tradition I mean, if your main impression of Glasgow is the Red Road flats (demolished a decade ago), I’m not surprised…

I can’t think of anything that TV gets more wrong than adverts involving friends watching the football at home, usually to sell crisps, etc. Grown men watching TV with scarves on, etc

So long to the iconic Metro-Cammell trains that were introduced following the 1970s modernisation of the subway, pictured below. James Miller’s quirky 1896 Flemish Renaissance ticket office appears to float above the tracks as the refurb continues around it. 📷 Reach

@PastGlasgow @PaulJSweeney When you think about it, that was one heck of a feat of engineering. From my understanding of it, they had to create the concrete platform under the existing building, and then add the supports to stop it falling into the hole they were digging, all without destorying it.
