Met someone last evening. The guy is into the waste processing business and was earlier in the scrap collection business. I am generally very curious about how different businesses work and what kind of potential they have in the future. Heard some shocking facts:
- A seasoned mid-level scrap collector can earn up to ₹10K–₹12K per day. The game is to build a network of other waste collectors who can supply good-quality scrap.
- The industry is booming, and businesses in it are extremely cash-rich. You’re looking at millionaire-level annual numbers here.
I have always had a theory in my mind: are there groups across countries motivated to damage infrastructure and steal public assets meant for citizens’ safety and convenience?
Things like construction materials, especially iron, bridge railings, reflectors, metal signboards, benches at bus stops.
He didn’t confirm it outright, but he seemed uncomfortable. After gently pushing for a couple of minutes, he partially acknowledged it and said such activities can be politically motivated, and that if one digs deeper, a religious angle might also emerge.
