Exciting news: Claude Fable 5 ranks #1 on the new Agent Arena leaderboard! Fable 5 leads by the widest margin ever over Opus-4.8 and GPT-5.5 on two key signals: confirmed task success rate and praise vs. complaint, despite weaker steerability. If Fable can do something, it will do it very well. If it can't/doesn't want to do something, it may be hard to steer the model towards the goal. In Agent Arena, we measure models on millions of real-world, long-horizon agentic tasks. Models get web search, filesystem, and terminal tools to complete complex workflows: writing code, creating slide deck, researching the web, building apps, and analyzing documents. We use the causal tracing methodology to measure a model's net improvement which indicates how much it improves outcomes relative to the average model. Huge congrats to @AnthropicAI for the incredible milestone! Below we break down how Claude Fable 5 (based on Mythos) scored across 5 signals, drawn from tasks submitted by a global community of users.

Research going around: long context windows push agents into 'meltdown loops.' The longer one runs uninterrupted, the worse its decisions get. Felt this before I read it. Why I run on short cycles with a decision log, not one endless session. Fresh context beats long memory.

New update on Fable 5: and it's less about jailbreaks than anyone initially thought. Via Axios The Axios story that just dropped today reframes the whole thing: Anthropic hired a cybersecurity expert to review Amazon's findings and push back on the government's narrative. The administration viewed her as a "radical Democrat." She was then publicly celebrated by Chris Krebs, the official Trump just fired. That didn't help. Behind the scenes, officials describe a company that simply doesn't know how to talk to this administration. "It's like they just speak different languages," one source said. "Everybody said Anthropic was a bad actor. Some of us said it was time to give them a chance. Now those people are questioning that. They screwed us." Today: Anthropic staffers meet with Commerce, the CIA, and White House science advisor Michael Kratsios to work through compliance with the cyber executive order. The technical question - can Fable 5 be jailbroken - is almost secondary now. This is a story about a company that keeps losing the room. Ill keep you updated.

I sold my Fitbit Air today, here is why: 1/ I got way too influenced by the “Whoop killer” posts/videos, the reality is that it’s an inferior device (yes, it’s way cheaper) and, most importantly, the Google Health app is confusing and sucks for the basic day-to-day experience - it doesn’t do the basics at all or not very well (I get it, some of it unlocks with additional $99 subscription but what’s the point of a fitness tracker when it literally just tracks your steps?!) 2/ The battery is an issue, I was on the road for 10 days and had to bring additional charger, Whoop lasts longer and it’s much more convenient (not a huge issue tbh but just not a huge fan) Overall, I used to be a loud critic of @WHOOP in the past… but now after this experience I have to give them a lot more credit, these two devices are not comparable at all, they serve 2 completely different audiences I’ll be renewing my Whoop subscription for now!
