Life update: I'm joining @ycombinator as Visiting Partner 🤩 Software ate the world, and now AI is eating software — the founders building in this shift will redefine how we compute, work, and live. In my new role, I'm excited to find those founders and help them build the iconic startups of this generation. YC backed me when I founded Cron Inc. in 2019, and I'm grateful to come full circle and pay it forward. I'll start reading applications in October, interviewing founders in November, and then pack my battered suitcase in January for the W26 batch 🔥 Follow along here & see you in SF!

Using Cursor again today for the first time in a while. Still using Claude Code, Codex, Conductor, of course. First: someone needs to rename because the C-named companies are out of control. Second: fast is good. Composer 2 is good because it's fast. That's all you need to know to at least give it a try. Third: I am grateful that I can switch between all of these tools in an instant. Little-to-no lock in. I pick the thing that gives me the most intelligence-per-second-per-dollar and am happy.

god damn manhattan steals your sleep in ways you don’t fully appreciate until you’re somewhere quiet. the noise is actually physiologically adversarial. the damn ambulance sirens are engineered to bypass habituation & your nervous system can’t ignore them because it’s not supposed to. instead i have been waking up to birds lately & it’s the exact inverse. the dawn chorus acts like an evolutionary safety signal. your brain reads it as “all clear.” you rise instead of jolt. the city that never sleeps is actually a huge warning sign.

@NotionHQ A UX improvement I wish is making the `Open in sidepeek` button behave as a toggle — once the sidepanel is open, the button becomes useless but could turn into a functional `Close sidepeek` button. Should be an improvement to prompt into existence @randyjhunt et al ♡

Heading 4 is finally here 😤 The years of “just bold the text and pretend” are over. Rolling out now.

🇮🇹It’s rare to find a place where time stands still. This villa overlooking Lake Maggiore is one of them. 424 sqm of living space.
2,800 sqm of land. Original stained glass. Historic interiors. Untouched atmosphere. This is different. 🧵

Middle truncation is one of those underrated UI tricks that traditionally have been very hard to do on the web. macOS does it beautifully (it’s a complex algorithm to get it just right right). Being this to your app for long labels where the end is important to see:
Jacob@fat

Alex and team have been spending lots of time thinking about middot truncation for the new Trees library by the Pierre Computer Company. Last night he came across a novel approach to truncation that leverages container queries in a css grid to detect the *moment* of truncation. The solution works on first render from css with no js, fully SSR compatible. Even copy paste works.

Merz called Germany's nuclear phase-out 'a serious strategic mistake.' Two months later: 'irreversible.' Meanwhile Germany is burning coal and the rest of the world is building reactors. Bring back nuclear everywhere. gli.st/nzb54xgl
