Look, this is fine; courts appointing U.S. Attorneys has always been a bit odd. But it is, in fact, currently provided by law, and the Administration wouldn't have to deal with it if it would only nominate candidates who could earn Senate confirmation, rather than partisan hacks.

If Israel is going to block Christians from entering holy sites in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday while the U.S. is fighting a war where Israel is far and away the greatest beneficiary, then perhaps the United States should be in charge of access to the holy sites.

I will also add that I wish there was at least as much outrage over The Islamic Republic shooting missiles at and near holy sites, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, as there is over a disagreement on how to best protect people from those missiles.

This is the correct decision and what should have been done in the first place. By all accounts, Cardinal Pizzaballa has cooperated with the safety concerns and cancelled the procession. It makes sense to ban large gatherings, for all religious groups, in those unprotected areas. But if he and other Catholic leaders are willing to take the risk for themselves due to the importance of the holiday, then Israel should do everything possible to accommodate it. Israel has enough problems without stepping on unnecessary and easily avoidable landmines. Whoever was foolish enough to not work with The Cardinal prior ti today to find a solution should be removed from the decision-making process.
