Chuck Norris didn't join the Marine Corps...the Marine Corps applied to him. Heaven’s streets have always been guarded by Marines. Today, Chuck Norris reported for duty. We mourn the passing of Chuck Norris, a @usairforce veteran, who also became an honorary Marine in 2007 when awarded the title by then Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James T. Conway. Chuck Norris is one of just over 100 individuals to be awarded the title of Honorary Marine in the entire 250-year history of the Corps. Some missions may require a battalion, but this one just requires an Honorary Marine. #USMCHistory #USMC #SemperFidelis

If coding actually does get replaced by AI it's gonna be super ugly The last 30-40 years appear to have been a gradually intensifying "revenge of the nerds" fever dream, and non-techies really did not enjoy watching these people make 250k/yr remotely without degrees I predict low levels of sympathy in the case of mass coder layoffs
taoki@justalexoki

i think its a little sad to watch all these people who took pride in the art of programming slowly die away as they realize bit by bit that its actually over

Cliff gave me my first (real) contract job back in 2001 at Epic Games. He would literally mail me a CD with the Unreal Warfare build/tools. I CD-ROM installed it and made levels for their latest (very early phase, never-released) game. He told me "Dude, we expect only the best, so please understand if we ever cancel the contract." (totally fair) But when I submitted my first level, he said "This is great! I'm glad we sent you the build!" 😅<-- My face I was so proud, I photo-scanned the check they sent me ($5k!!) but I ended up leaving the Epic contract for another full-time gamedev job (bad move, Epic gig was a dream job). Anyway, Cliff was a character back then (we all were), but I owe him a lot for believing in me. So yea, I don't know what he was thinking either 😁 Thank you CliffyB! ❤️🫡

Game devs overthink this way too much. Just publish the game. Worst case, nobody plays it. Best case, it blows up and changes everything. You’ll never know which one it is unless you ship it.

@nitzukai A multimedia centric, more pins XLR would be great for durability and not poppin out the port at the wrong time for people out in the field using various equipment.

is USB-C the final evolution of ports or is there any possible design that could replace it in the future before we go fully wireless

Mid-level engineer at a major cloud provider got called into a "role evolution discussion" yesterday afternoon Manager pulled up a dashboard comparing his output to an AI agent over 90 days. 47 tickets closed by him. 312 tickets closed by the agent. Average resolution time: him 4.2 hours, agent 23 minutes Code quality scores: him 7.8/10, agent 8.4/10 after review The agent worked 24/7. Never took PTO. Never had family emergencies. Never pushed back on unrealistic timelines. His manager showed him the cost breakdown: his fully loaded compensation $165k annually, agent operational cost $4,200 per month "We value your contributions," manager said, "but we need to discuss your path forward in this new paradigm" Translation: 30 days to find another role internally or take the voluntary separation package He's been there 6 years. Owns the authentication service. Thought domain expertise mattered. Turns out the agent already documented his entire decision tree. Screen recordings of every debugging session. His Slack conversations became training data. Two junior contractors in Romania now maintain his service using his own troubleshooting playbook The "evolution" meeting lasted 12 minutes His badge still works. Slack still pings. But he's walking dead and everyone knows it The agent that replaced him doesn't even have a name. Just "Agent-Auth-001" in the ticketing system Six years of expertise. Condensed to prompts. Executing faster than he ever could But sure, keep telling people AI is just a tool

Refer to a stay at home wife as a home engineer. Start calling household tasks home engineering. This will solve the branding crisis and increase the birthrate.

Karen in HR swung by my office this morning Asked if I'm joining the Employee Engagement team-building session this afternoon I said "what is it" She said "an escape room" I said "what time" She said "5pm" On a Friday An escape room At 5pm On a Friday The irony of trapping employees in a room they have to solve their way out of at the exact hour they've been trying to escape all week was apparently lost on her I said "no" She said "it's mandatory" I said "so is reading the policy before enforcing it but here we are" She said "it's about building team culture" I said "I already spend 50 hours a week with these people. If we haven't built culture by now, a padlock and a flashlight aren't going to fix it." She said "your attitude is part of the problem" I said "my attitude built the Q2 forecast in two days. What has the escape room built." She didn't answer She left a flyer on my desk I used it as a coaster At 4:58 I packed my bag The analyst saw me leaving He said "you're not going?" I said "I have somewhere to be" He said "where" I said "home" He looked confused Like the concept of leaving at 5 on a Friday was something he'd only read about I said "you should try it sometime" Got in the car My wife called She said "are you coming home?" I said "I escaped" She said "from what" I said "the escape room" She said "you didn't go did you" I said "I didn't need to. I solved it from my office. The answer was the door." She laughed First time she's laughed at something I said in weeks I'm counting that Plz fix. Thx. Sent from my iPhone
