CICO is real. So what is actually going on with people who say it is not? Let’s the beg the question it’s “not working for them” so … why? And please let’s try to keep this constructive, even if the explanation is cognitive bias.

Not sure which dimension(s) you're interested in, so here's a two expansions: - The one time in my life I intentionally lost weight, the lever I pulled was "move less, ignore calories". - On the other hand, people who pulled CI down and pushed CO up ended up less healthy: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC49… I've also seen CICO proponents argue along the lines that you create a deficit IFF you eat less and move more, then react with denial or disbelief to people claiming (a) this didn't work or (b) they lost weight while eating more or moving less, despite the fact that (a) and (b) are both logically consistent with CICO. Making CI and CO the primary levers for weight loss works for some people, some of the time--but there are other levers that work more reliably in many cases, and telling them they need to CICO better isn't helpful.

It’s a stakeholder alignment problem made worse by the expectations of modern capital markets. What’s good for the investors (e.g. CalPERS and everyones 401k) is often not good for employees and customers. Cooperatives, employee-owned businesses, and credit unions fix this—but then they will be limited be lack of capital.

Enshittification is a popular topic now — we all see it, we all hate it — but has anyone figured out how we get out of this death spiral? What’s the move? Do we all need to bail on a business the second it begins?
