Stopped by Tiny Tiki Bar in Shaw (just south of U at 9th) last weekend. Nice, chill basement spot open Thu-Sat at 6p in the basement of the Vietnamese restaurant 1914 By Kolben. Cocktails $14-15, with some Vietnamese snacks. Aside from @travisjmitchell in @ThrillistDC zero press

@jeffmorgen @fritzhahn Great idea. I'm genuinely curious though if you think people can do the equation though between a 3oz old fashioned at say, 38% abv or a 12 oz Paloma at 9% abv (or a 14 oz beer that's 7% abv? Which is actually "stronger"?

Such an amazing idea: Imagine bars listing the ABVs of cocktails on the menu, the same way they do with beer and wine.

POLL-Assuming a vax mandate is off the table, should DC’s indoor mask mandate return (yes I know it mostly doesn’t make much sense in restaurants since customers can’t eat or drink while eating but it helps provide legal support for having it in other biz)?

@BarredinDC SF is using this model, yeah? Vaxxed/no masks for offices, gyms, theaters, etc (places where easy to validate status and attendance)

POLL - Would you be in favor of an indoor mask mandate in DC for essential biz only (I.e. only those spots open indoors in April 2020 like grocery stores, pharmacies, medical facilities, etc)? (If you think no spots or only restaurants/bars should be exempt, pick 3rd choice)

@ideasimprove Thanks for this. For me, it's toughest in situations like, "oh this is an interesting/expensive/rare ____ (beer/wine/spirit)," and gee how do let my brain pass up this "opportunity" without the FOMO, etc. Guess that is moderation kicks in, yeah?

@juliezweil @MayorBowser @TheArtist_MBS Thank you for asking this. Please keep asking these questions. I can go to yoga/the gym in Arlington w/o a mask but not in D.C.? Makes ZERO sense. At least let us check vax cards.

@BarredinDC Only reason I care is because I doubt Bowser will bother to roll back indoor masking unless case numbers go down. Not because I myself am worried/concerned.

Looking very unlikely DC imposes vaccine mandates for dining and gyms like SF, NY, Nola, Palm Springs have (again unless CDC adjusts guidance). I believe that @_DCHealth rationale isn’t unreasonable here tho in my amateur opinion I would support a mandate

At today's presser, Dr. Nesbitt from DC Health was again asked about whether a regional vaccine passport would be useful. "No." She says no company that currently exists has the ability to validate vaccination in ways that don’t compromise privacy or protected health information.

I’m tracking cities in the US which have some sort of vaccination requirement. As you can see most so far aren’t trading mask requirements for vaccine requirements, and those are in fact not inconsistent with CDC guidance

DC has just recorded its first Covid related death in August. The mask mandate has been in place for 12 days. Cases have roughly tripled. Hmmm.
