A big WC eye opener for me is that I viewed, I guess naively, European countries as allies/friends. The anti-American venom and vitriol from posts on X (far beyond football banter) before and during the WC has changed my view on EU completely - to a very negative view.

The US athlete thing when it comes to soccer is so stupid. There is clear evidence in the women's game that when soccer is treated as a first choice sport the us is one of the best in the world but people act like that wouldn't be the case for the men's sport
