It starts when breathing and pulses stop = death, but sometimes reversible. We have a saying during a code: “they can’t get more dead”. We often don’t know neurologic outcome until days later if pulses return.

No one would do CPR on a dead person for an hour there is no point. permanent brain damage starts around 4 min and can die 4 to 6 min later

I'm not seeing my parents for the holidays this year but we did make vacation plans for August and that felt good. It's gonna be a long winter and it may not be a bad idea to give yourselves some things to look forward to in the 2H of 2021 and beyond, post vaccines, etc.
