Jesus did build a church… but when it’s defined by the inspired scripture he gave to his disciples it’s not a certain religion or sect of Christianity. Not Catholic, not Baptist, not prodestant, not Jew. No religion can hide behind their name and enter the kingdom of God. Who does Jesus actually call his church? “Those that do the will of my Father.” Who built that building? That would be the Roman Catholic religion. No guessing, it’s historically documented.

Your absolutely right. Does that beautiful building play any role in a soul spending eternity with Christ? Show me a picture of the cathedral Jesus preached and taught all his sermons in? How about the famous sermon on the mount? It didn’t exist, Jesus was the true vine, the light of the world, the head of the church and we are the body of Christ. When Jesus spoke “… on this rock I will build my church.” He was speaking of Himself. All other ground is sinking sand. The foundation, the chief cornerstone is Jesus.

With only love and grace as Paul would phrase it…Don’t get wrapped up in the religion or the system itself, but rather seek for the one, the vine, the author and finisher of your faith. “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 The single must have in order for salvation is Jesus himself. You can hold tight to the Catholic Church, and all it offers, but if you miss Jesus you will miss it all.

If Rome is the mother church, why does the Bible call Jerusalem the starting point of the gospel [Luke 24:47, Acts 1:8]?

Jesus holds all authority and by his spirit was the word of God made available to us. That each believer would study and show themselves approved in order to rightly divide and share the gospel in love. We are sent out to make disciples as we are matured in discipleship ourselves. God does not share his authority with anyone or anything.

@jreturntoeden @reformedhg If you don’t believe the New then you don’t believe the Old Testament. They are one in unity. The patriarchs of the old looked forward to a messiah revealed in the New. We gentiles/jews who have the New look back to the messiah who was prophecied in the Old.

There are several scriptures speaking of the sufficiency of scripture. All that we need and lack we can be found in the word of God. “and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” II Timothy 3:15-17 “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” Deuteronomy 4:2 “Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” Proverbs 30:6
