@blashdril I think it makes sense if they keep divisional playoffs. Have the 4 and 5 do a play in. Then two rounds of divisional playoffs.
I’d prefer just going back to 1-8 though.

Asked what he wanted to see down the stretch, GM Steve Yzerman said the Red Wings needed to make the right plays under pressure. Edvinsson rushed a clear and didn’t get the puck out of the defensive zone. Florida tied it 3-3 with goalie pulled and 1:30 to go.

Terrible loss for Detroit. The Red Wings blew a late 3-2 lead and blew two points, losing to the Panthers 4-3 in regulation. They also lost Andrew Copp to a leg injury. Next up on the trip: Tampa Bay and Dallas.

@Braylon_Breeze For the NHL's popularity, I think ESPN having the A package and one of NBC or Fox having the B package would be best. TNT has had solid productions, but just hasn't been able to draw fans the same way the bigger networks can.

There’s clearly this notion of thinking Doc Emrick represented all of NBC. Do people even remember what the NHL on NBC was like? I feel like we’re greatly romanticizing it.

If the NHL could do four things it would be perfect: 1. Bring back NBC on NHL 2. Bring back the “Stanley Cup Playoffs” and “Stanley Cup Finals” on the ice. 3. Have games actually start on time. 4. Get rid of the digital advertisements on the board and the ice.

@By_Odins_Beard_ I think Edvinsson is better than Buium at this point though. Pretty safe to say Ed will be a top pairing guy. Buium has a ways to go. Rossi has shown a lot more, but teams don’t like small centers. I think there’s pretty equal value in Ed/Danielson to Buium/Rossi.

Wild package for Hughes is massive, and I can understand Red Wings hesitance. Matching Buium would have been particularly tough. But guys like Hughes rarely come available. They may now have to wait until (if) he’s a free agent for another chance. We’ll see

@seth_walters1 Mazur isn’t a first round pick and his injury status/history makes him not worth anything in trades IMO. Still love the player and hope he is a middle six guy for Detroit at some point.

As of now I don’t think Bear is best comp for Ohgren…
I’d say Mazur would match the value table closest. Maybe add a 3rd.

@nrs82 No arguing from me Hughes is the second best. But Hughes replacing Ed on the top pair and replacing Mo on the power play isn’t a massive improvement when those things are already good. Anyway, it doesn’t matter now.

@DustinMorley Hughes for Edvinsson as the centerpiece is far from a lateral move, in my opinion. You’re swapping a solid D-man for arguably the second best blueliner on the planet.

@nrs82 I don’t. I think it would’ve been an upgrade but a lateral move. We already have an elite top pair and power play. We needed the ability to have 3 top defenders for it to make sense. I’m bummed, but don’t think the package would’ve made sense.

@DustinMorley @m_bultman I badly wanted Hughes too, but that’s a lesser package than Vancouver got. Buium is better than Edvinsson, Rossi is better than/has a higher ceiling than Danielson. Bear trumps Ohgren, and the 1sts are obviously equal. Detroit would’ve needed Edvinsson, ASP, Danielson, plus IMO.

Good piece here by @AlexMSilverman. I think Stephen McArdle is one to watch in the long term. Or Gary just augments his body with robot parts and is NHL commissioner into the next century.
