@M0KPH I was messing with 28 & 29, all manner of combinations but only got beep-beep noises when pressing the GPS button as no power going to the Module, I can't even see how the plug is wired because it's full of hot-gun glue. Anyways, they've already shipped the new GPS Unit :)

@IO93us 28 and 29. 28 defaults to GPS1, so I left this as it was. You’d think you’d select RS232, but nope. 29 defaults to 4800 but I had to change this to match the 9600 reported speed of the unit.

GPS unit for FT-991A has arrived. That was quick, less than a week from AliExpress.

@M0KPH Last night I ordered a 3 x AA battery box with a switch on for a few quid, I know it's only 4.5V but I sometimes drive to the coast where I live so thought I'd try that and see how long the batteries last? - Antenna in pic pointing somewhere in Europe? lol

@IO93us The sub £3 DC-DC converters from the bay work well. 5V from the shack power supply. I 3D printed a little box to prevent any shorts.

@M0KPH I just realized that mine doesn't have a power lead coming out the plug? Just ordered the one you have :)

@IO93us This didn’t come on straight away. GPS1 default setting is fine, but worth verifying advertised bit rate. Defaults is 4800 but this works at 9600. A change to the menu setting, a press of the GPS button and the green light came on.

@Rainmaker1973 I used to do this in the mid/late 80's with an Agfa CLS21 Minilab - mixed replen chem's, printed the pics, fixed the print dev machine when it broke, loaded fresh paper - did it all and loved the smell of the Neg Developer :)

@ElecNotes This diagram makes me feel dumb and it's hard to make out only having half the information... I'm Joe Blogs with no higher education so to speak, but surely that magnetic part has 2 poles N & S? same as the + & - electric part - I'm sure it's supposed to look like a dart flight?

Electromagnetic waves – what are they Electromagnetic waves or e/m radiation has two constituents. The radiation is made from electric and magnetic components that are inseparable. The planes of the fields are at right angles to each other and to the direction in which the wave is travelling. A traditional way of understanding what electromagnetic waves are is to think of them as synchronised oscillations of electric and magnetic fields - in other words a field consisting of both electrical and magnetic fields that oscillate together. It is useful to see where the different elements of the wave emanate from to gain a more complete understanding of electromagnetic waves. The electric component of the wave results from the voltage changes that occur as the antenna element is excited by the alternating waveform. The lines of force in the electric field run along the same axis as the antenna, but spreading out as they move away from it. This electric field is measured in terms of the change of potential over a given distance, e.g. volts per metre, and this is known as the field strength. This measure is often used in measuring the intensity of an electromagnetic wave at a particular point. The other component, namely the magnetic field is at right angles to the electric field and hence it is at right angles to the plane of the antenna. It is generated as a result of the current flow in the antenna. Like other forms of electromagnetic wave, radio signals can be reflected, refracted and undergo diffraction. In fact some of the first experiments with radio waves proved these facts, and they were used to establish a link between radio waves and light rays. The fields do not require a medium such was air, etc to propose it is the energy in the electromagnetic fields that spreads out - all it needs is space.

My Antenna's a bit crap for 6M- 1/2 G5RV joined with a Sirio 827, both transmitting together and not at all tuned for 6M by any means but my Yaesu 902 tuner has kinda sorted the SWR... there's a few on right now :)
