@TheBasicExpert1 I’ll take a look, but I am skeptical about attacks on old school creators. I didn’t care for WotC going after Gygax, Arneson, et al. There seems to be a rise of attacks on old content creators and it doesn’t sit well with me, especially in “D&D History” books.

Lynn Willis (RIP) and Greg Stafford (RIP) were a big part of this invention of the d6 system as well. Not just Sandy.
Greg Costikyan at West End Games stripped the system down and rebuilt it for Star Wars.

Sandy couldn't copyright the rules because Chaosium as a whole was hired by West End Games to design Ghostbusters.

@Wizards_DnD I wish there was a way, but without an overhaul of the entire company, I don’t see it happening. Best shot is if another company does for WotC what WotC did for TSR and buy them out. People who love the game and want to see it prosper. Not… this.

@Nobleshield @CrusaderCool They tried and failed to get their own VTT off the ground. They hired new personnel with background with online gaming. They declared that 5.5E was not a new edition but editionless. It would just be continually updated as needed through D&DB. Like an online game.

@Nobleshield @CrusaderCool That’s done on purpose. WotC is intentionally getting await from print books and brick-and-mortar stores. They have made a concentrated effort to go digital. Hence why they bought D&DBeyond, preferred selling PDFs to physical books.

Frustrating there's no D&D play to support like a true open table anymore. And most people who ask about it aren't interested in old versions or games "like" D&D; they mean the currently supported version.

Since I'm writing backwards from 5e, it's rather funny that I've gotten rather salty about 3e/3.5/Pathfinder because of the design approach Monte Cook posted about in 2008, where effectively they ensured the game's design would have "better" and "worse" options a priori.

@Gingerblast How about 3d20, take the Median (drop lowest and highest). Gives a more normal distribution but keeps the numbers the same. Folds into the idea of ADV/DIS (sort of both at the same time). Easier math.

Confession: in my IRL game, my most egregious homebrew rule is I allow both players and DM to roll 2d10 anytime they want instead of a D20 for a more reliable chance of a middling roll, but a lower chance of a crit

Players deserve to have a set of rules to refer to so that they may reliably plan ahead. They should feel confident that if their plan is rules legal, the DM will honor those rules. This isn't anti-homebrew; homebrew should be written and available to players for this purpose.
