The pattern adds the result of the previous line to the new sum. So 1+4=5. Then 2+5=7 plus previous 5 equals 12. Then 3+6=9 plus previous 12 equals 21. Then 5+8=13 plus previous 21 equals 34. However another pattern multiplies the numbers and adds the first. 1 times 4 plus 1 equals 5. 2 times 5 plus 2 equals 12. 3 times 6 plus 3 equals 21. So 5 times 8 plus 5 equals 45. The answer 45 is more common.
