I hope he breaks out in AA and we trade him next year. I think he’s gonna be a great ball player, but for obvious reasons I don’t want to root for him in a Yankees jersey.

Annual $2,500 @MLBDraft accounting trick explanation . . . There's a $2,500 signing contingency bonus teams can give players when the contract is executed. Some teams give it on top of the signing bonus, some take it out of the bonus to save $ vs their pools, some don't bother.

Only two players have yet to put pen to paper officially: Anthony Potestio (11th) Tyce Armstrong (19th) Potestio still has eligibility, but recently put Yankees in his bio. Armstrong has had it there for a week. Both should sign, but watch for Potestio, if anything.

@NYY_Prospects You counted wrong based on your numbers. They're only $215,700 over their pool, not $264,700. Their 5% was $367,140. That should leave them with $151,440 if your numbers are right.

The math: The Yankees are currently $264,700 over their assigned pool with no potential savings remaining. They only have $102,440 left to go over the default $150,000 bonus for the 11th-20th round picks. 6 of them have already signed, but for TBD amounts.

@AnalyticMe99276 @runyandy Nope. Two weeks from now when they run at the ECPS at a full 60 yards, the times will be 0.15-0.25 slower. Happens every year. The least reliable 60s are done at the PG National events and Super 60.

@runyandy Better athlete relative to their age group. And yes, these kids run times are probably comparable to that of Bo and Deion, because they development systems available to them.

Ah yes…the annual tradition of multiple 17 year old kids at a single event posting 60 times that align with Olympic sprinting speed and make them the fastest players in MLB, currently

Just so we’re clear, you cannot actually pull your name out of the MLB draft. You CAN ask teams to not draft you, but it’s definitely not a choice. Do with this what you will

Further, no publication is more disconnected from the draft than PG. The history of golden spikes award winners as pros is a mixed bag of success

@GataDawgB2B @ZachZachdubose @BaseballUGA Great question! I wish I had an answer but I don’t. Most Golden Spokes winners are high first rounders. IE: Dansby Swanson who won the GS was the first pick & Charlie Condon was pick #3.

Danial Jackson is projected by PG as pick 69 in the July MLB draft. DJ won the Golden Spikes, Dick Howser, Buster Posey, & SEC player of the Year but there are 3 catchers projected to go hire & 2 are from the SEC. If they are so good why didn’t they win any awards?@BaseballUGA

@Chris24Butler @TreyDores @CoachBeede Not all Vandy players get drafted or sign professional contracts. You are only filtering for players that meet a professional threshold and excluding the number of players who don’t even meet the rookie ball threshold of which there are none in pro ball.

If there is any college program that is close to minor league baseball, it is Vanderbilt. This is coming from a Tennessee fan who respects the program that Corbin has built for the ground up.

The Toronto Blue Jays offered my son first-round money out of high school. The kind of number that changes a family's life. He turned it down to go to Vanderbilt. People said we were crazy. The money is real, and the draft is never promised twice. He won a College World Series, earned the degree, and went 14th overall three years later. The money was still there. By then the education was not optional; it was his. I do not share that to brag. The pathway was the point. The bat/arm gets an athlete looked at. The classroom decides how long he stays in the game, and who he is when it ends.

@Chris24Butler @TreyDores @CoachBeede 100% of the players in AA made it to AA, not 2/3. 100% of the hitters you face in AA also made it to AA, not some fraction of 100%. This is simple math. College baseball isn’t A ball.

Over 100 of those have played AA ball or higher, which I believe also leads all colleges. So you are looking at over 2/3rds of the players drafted playing AA or higher. Put some respect on Corbin’s program.

A brief amount of thought regarding who never makes it to college, international players, & how few Vandy players make it to AA would have led you to the right answer

@CoachBeede You know our motto “40 not 4” In today’s environment a school path makes more sense. I talk to scouts all the time,for years they’ve compared Vandy’s program to AA ball because of the SOS and the way the program is run! I believe you can learn more taking the college route!
