Former Army JAG here. No quarter orders are a violation of the law of war and Geneva conventions. This is the same order reportedly given during the Caribbean boat strikes. @SecWar is establishing a pattern of issuing illegal orders. I’ve trained hundreds of soldiers on the law of war — our service members have an obligation to follow that law.

Under the cover of night, the January 6 plaque was finally installed in the U.S. Capitol. But instead of placing it where the public can see it, it was tucked away in a basement area that isn’t accessible. It was clear then and it’s clear now: @SpeakerJohnson would rather this day be forgotten. The brave men and women who defended the Capitol deserve recognition in a place worthy of their courage.

I visited James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg to meet with Superintendent Catlett and Principal Petty to discuss how we can continue supporting students, teachers, and families. I also stopped by several history classes to hear directly from students about the issues that matter most to them. Their insight and curiosity were impressive!

Since I was sworn in, I’ve been fighting every day to improve our military’s FPV/PBAS drone capabilities and protect our troops with better C-UAS. We’ve seen videos like this one for years out of Ukraine, but now we’re seeing them over our bases and installations. I’m hopeful my colleagues will join me in ensuring our troops have the same kinds of capabilities — especially fiber optic — along with the means to stop them.

Last month, I was honored to join the Loving family to celebrate the Bowling Green Courthouse being added to the U.S. Civil Rights Trail. It was in this very courtroom that Mildred and Richard Loving were convicted for marrying across racial lines — a case that ultimately led to the Supreme Court affirming that the freedom to marry is a fundamental right. It was a privilege to join the family in marking this historic moment.

The historic Tacketts Mill — home to my Woodbridge District Office — was the perfect setting for my “Get to Know Your Neighbors” tour. I visited the Prince William Conservation Alliance to learn more about their work protecting our region’s natural resources, then joined Supervisor Kenny Boddye to visit Literacy Volunteers of America and Forever Yours LLC to see firsthand the services and small businesses supporting the community. I wrapped up the tour at Hector’s, a longtime staple of Tacketts Mill.

Trump’s top counterterrorism official just resigned, saying there was no justification for war with Iran. Joe Kent and I don’t agree on much — but we agree on this: the United States should not send more Americans to die in Trump’s war of choice.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Last week, I joined @SenTimKaine and Supervisor Andrea Bailey for a tour of the Prince William County Crisis Receiving Center. This 24/7 facility provides intensive services for those experiencing mental health and substance use disorder emergencies. I’m thankful for the important work this facility is doing on behalf of our neighbors.

Let's be clear — an order to give "no quarter" means to take no prisoners and execute soldiers who try to surrender. It is a violation of the law of war and the Geneva Conventions. As a former Army JAG who trained soldiers on the law of war, it is clear that @SecWar must go.
