Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

@SandyofCthulhu I wonder if this is just something that naturally happens with squirrels when the rat population becomes too large. Like grasshoppers turning into locusts. Too many rats around and then the squirrels become predatory.

Every herbivore is able to eat meat. Plants are much more difficult to digest than meat - look at the complicated systems herbivores must use to do it - they need multiple stomachs (ruminants), reprocessing waste (rabbits), or long-term fermentation. Almost any herbivore's digestive tract will easily handle eating meat. I've seen a cow eat a chicken and everyone knows chickens eat everything. The difficulty herbivores have is that they are designed to escape predators, not to hunt them down. They don't have the physical ability in most cases to capture prey (the cow who ate the chicken cornered it in the barnyard). Thus, while a pigeon can absolutely eat a dead sparrow, it's hard for the pigeon to kill that sparrow in the first place. Carnivores have much simplified digestive tracts, which is why our torsoes are so much narrower than an herbivores. Humans are sometimes an exception because we're so successful we become obese, but our innards are, unsurprisingly in between carnivore and herbivore. We have about 26 feet of intestines, which might seem like a lot, but a deer of equal size has 65 feet of intestine! A lion only has about a 6 foot tract. Ours is longer because we do eat plants, but we are super-picky about our plants. We eat fruit, nuts, and the very least fibrous leaves, stems and roots. We can't eat grass, most tree leaves, pine needles, etc. Anyway. I look forward to our New Squirrel Masters forming packs to hunt us down and feast on us like we deserve.

California squirrels are eating rodents in broad daylight. In California’s Briones Regional Park, researchers observed a startling new behavior: California ground squirrels, typically known for eating nuts and seeds, are now hunting, killing, and consuming voles, a smaller rodent species in their habitat. A study in the Journal of Ethology documented 74 squirrel-vole interactions, with 42% involving squirrels stalking, pouncing on, and eating voles. This behavior, observed almost daily, marks the first recorded instance of widespread carnivory in this species. While squirrels have occasionally eaten insects or bird eggs, actively hunting warm-blooded prey is unprecedented. Student-recorded videos show squirrels chasing voles, restraining them with forepaws, biting their necks, and consuming their flesh or organs. The behavior may stem from a vole population surge—nearly seven times the state’s ten-year average—prompting squirrels to exploit this abundant protein source. Squirrels of all ages and sexes participated, suggesting a potential lasting adaptation. It’s unclear if this carnivorous trend will continue once vole numbers normalize, but the discovery reveals the surprising adaptability of even well-known animals. ["Squirrels Are Displaying ‘Widespread Carnivorous Behavior’ for the First Time in a California Park, New Study Finds." Smithsonian Magazine, 2025]

@SonjaInTheBox @wine_018 Would you teach them that they are *not* entitled to something someone else bought just because they want it? Because raising them to *not* be a spoiled brat is a pretty good thing to do for a child. But I care about the people who will have to deal with that kid - you do you.

Boarding the plane, excited for that window seat you paid extra for 😌 You get to your row… and someone’s kid is already sitting there, crying their eyes out because “they want the window.” Sorry, not sorry. Move your child. I’m not giving up the seat I specifically bought just because tears are flowing. If the window was that important, you should’ve paid for it for your kid.

@cremieuxrecueil Why do we need to do placebo trials anymore? Isn't that medically unethical at this point, to withhold a potential cure? We have enough examples by now of what happens to people who are just taking sugar pills. Just use data from those as the control group.

This is not good: People have learned that GLP-1s are really effective, so if they're not losing weight, they know they're in the placebo group. So these people getting placebos are getting mad and leaving the trials.

@TheMiddleborne Every time it goes back to her in that scene, I remember that he was only in that situation because *she* begged him to do something he did *not* want to do. This version of Chani is a spoiled brat who cares about no one but herself - not even what she did to someone.

@SirBylHolte Feels like the writers tried to keep that 'Spider-Man has to save the villians' attitude without realizing the villians had shifted to become ones that didn't want or need saving.

@SirBylHolte - of how yeah, sometimes being a hero means saving the villian as much as the innocent. It's really only in Marvel's versions that we see villians that have *decided* to be villians instead of being *driven* to it - Vulture and Mysterio.

I had forgotten how much I HATE Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Then I re-watched "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and the reason why hit me like a truck: he's a dumb MODERN LIBERAL. "I’m gonna fix the bad guys." "Ooh, I don’t want the bad guys to get killed." "I don’t care how many people they hurt or kill along the way." "This is what I want, and humanity just has to deal with it." This time when I watched, after 6 years of democrat madness, I literally found myself rooting for "the villains." Because Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Electro are at least competent and actually get shit done—unlike that bumbling asshole Holland. He literally frees his deadliest nemeses from containment… ….so they can stay alive, go back to their worlds…and kill more people. And the funniest part is that Aunt May cheers him on for FREEING CRIMINALS - and we all know how THAT turned out for her😂 Even Green Goblin calls him out for being too weak to do what needs doing. And now he’s about to ruin “Brand New Day” with his constant failure and weakness. I thank God this will be his last outing in the role. I’d rather have a 60-year-old Tobey Maguire in the suit than this bozo.

@Hitchslap1 Poor impulse control. It's the same as when you get an uncomfortable feeling about something a woman does, except they never learned how to pause their feelings and 'man up' for someone else's sake. So they call it 'the ick' to make it seem like a failing with you, not them.

@MiddleearthMixr The cautionary tale should be of what causes humanity to need heroes in the first place - otherwise known as 'villians' - and not that sometimes heroes have to do some stuff most people aren't comfortable doing in order to be heroes.

Here’s the problem with what Herbert was trying to do “Paul is a cautionary tale. But also, Paul didn’t go far enough. Leto II in his technocratic wisdom was able to be the Dark Knight humanity needed but also, he was bad too.”
Hateful Muad'Dib@HatefulMuadDib

@MiddleearthMixr "heroes are bad. now here's a story where all of humanity will die unless a single remarkable figure makes an unfathomable personal sacrifice" cool thanks Frank

@Holden_Culotta That's nice and all, but when I met George Floyd in March of 2020 he was very adamant about how we needed to take out the dictatorship in Iran and free the oppressed men and women there. So. Yeah.

Wow. Joe Kent just revealed the last thing Charlie Kirk said to him: “The last time I saw Charlie Kirk on this Earth was in June, in the West Wing.” “He looked me in the eye and he said … Joe, stop us from getting into a war with Iran.” “One of President Trump’s closest advisors was vocally advocating for us to not go to war with Iran and for us to rethink, at least, our relationship with the Israelis.” “And then he’s suddenly publicly assassinated and we’re not allowed to ask any questions about that?” “The investigation that I was a part of [with] the National Counterterrorism Center, we were stopped from continuing to investigate.” “But there was still a lot for us to look into that I can’t really get into.” “There’s unanswered questions.” “We know, because of the text messages that have been made public, that Charlie was under a lot of pressure from a lot of pro-Israel donors.” @joekent16jan19 @TuckerCarlson

@ShamashAran Plus there's the 'sympathy' class of voters - people who can be manipulated into caring about the strawman Dems will make of some tenant down on their luck, and of the evil Republican opponent that just wants to help those mean landlords be cruel. Evil, but smart.

@ShamashAran Actually it's rather smart. Evil, but smart. He's not just creating landlords who are mildly annoyed with Democrat overregulation. He's creating tenants who will be homeless without it. One group is going to be *much* more motivated and politically active than the other.

Socialist who believes in rent control wants to make more landlords, who, after getting a taste of overregulation, will never vote democrat again. These people really are stupid.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

If you own a home with a basement, attic, or backyard, chances are you’ve thought about using it to earn a little extra income or as space for a loved one. We want to make it as easy (and affordable) as possible for you to do that. NYC recently legalized ADUs — but for too many New Yorkers, they’re still tied up in bureaucracy and expense. We're fixing that. Our new toolkit at nyc.gov/aduforyou includes preapproved building plans and a financing calculator so you can get right to building. If we want New York to remain a city for everyone, we have to make it easier for homeowners to stay here. ADU for You will do just that.
