Advancing Statistical Collaboration between Somalia & Norway Somalia National Bureau of Statistics delivered a comprehensive set of presentations during the ongoing engagement with Statistics Norway (SSB) in Oslo, with today’s session held with the Division for International Development Cooperation. The presentations stressed Somalia’s progress in strengthening the National Statistical System and advancing evidence-based policymaking. SNBS presented A to Z institutional journey, outlining key achievements, ongoing reforms and opportunities for further advancement. During the presentation, the Director General expressed sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality and continued support extended by SSB. Throughout the week, SNBS showcased key developments in business statistics, national accounts, energy statistics, population data systems and SDG monitoring; sharing insights from flagship initiatives such as the Somalia Integrated Household Budget Survey (SIHBS) and ongoing census preparations. The exchange is highly collaborative, with SSB sharing Norway’s experience in population and business registers, administrative data systems, national accounts modernization and the application of digital technologies in official statistics, providing valuable lessons and practical approaches. Strengthening Statistical Partnerships between Somalia & Norway 🇸🇴🤝🇳🇴
The delegation from Somalia National Bureau of Statistics is currently in Norway for a strategic engagement hosted by Statistics Norway (SSB), taking place from 20–24 April 2026.
During the visit, SNBS team held a high-level meeting with Director General of SSB, Geir Axelsen, engaging in constructive & forward-looking discussions aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration & knowledge exchange between the two national statistical offices.
The engagement is a collaborative exercise where SNBS presented notable progress made in Somalia’s statistical system, alongside existing opportunities & lessons. In turn, SSB shared its perspectives & experiences across key areas, including population & business registers, national accounts, administrative data systems & application of modern technologies in official statistics.
The overarching objective of this engagement is to jointly identify priority areas for cooperation & support, while fostering a shared understanding that contributes to strengthening Somalia’s statistical capacity for evidence-based planning & sustainable development.
This marks an important step towards deepening cooperation & building a strong, long-term partnership in advancing official statistics. @AbdisalamHumbul @abdirahm_omar
