The Norman Conquest of 1066 CE reshaped the political and cultural landscape of England, yet its demographic consequences remain poorly understood, particularly outside elite and urban contexts where historical evidence is concentrated.
Genomic data from 78 individuals from Priory Orchard site, a cemetery in Godalming (Surrey) in use between the 9th and early 13th centuries CE.

Director Steven Soderbergh during his interview with The Playlist revealed that he pitched ideas for James Bond films to producer Barbara Broccoli on two separate occasions, and both were ultimately rejected.
Soderbergh's proposal was for a parallel franchise. A separate Bond continuity or "universe" that would run alongside the main series. The pitch's key aspects were the following:
- Set in the 1960s
- R-rated, with more violence and sex
- A different actor as Bond
- A fictional backstory tied to real historical events
- A more stylized, auteur-driven approach

Good post on social media now and then. It's easy to complain but hard to come up with a viable business model. Twitter in its more golden years of less slop and partisanship wasn't making money.

I really liked this book, and the thing that struck me the most was how Japan twice encountered a foreign society it recognized as superior and immediately (without grievance) rebuilt itself. The first encounter was China, the second the AngloAmerican West. But what other society is able to be that objective about its own strengths and weaknesses? No other civilization in history has undertaken that kind of rebirth while preserving its cultural core. An amazing balance of pride and objectivity, a spectacular place.

The Iran war is, I think, the first time I genuinely had no idea which outlets to turn to for objective, serious reporting.
The Wall Street Journal is probably the only major outlet that seems remotely willing to just tell you what is happening.
