@Always_Boots @RCRBuck I’ve decided that when we have brought this into service & to prevent laser scanning, the plug-up & PACEX will require comms platoon to spend a week with sharpies colouring in the outside of fibre. And then repacking it.

Russian developers deploying 10km+ fiber optic spools highlight a timeless truth in warfare: the action-counteraction cycle is alive & well.
No matter how advanced a technology, system, or TTP may seem, humans will always find ways to adapt, counter, & innovate. Often, the simplest solutions are the most effective, proving once again that perfection in war is fleeting.
Modern conflict is a constant reminder that ingenuity, adaptability, & resourcefulness are the ultimate equalizers.

Russian developers have unfolded 10km of fiber optic cable from a spool - they note they are working on 10, 15, 20 and possibly 25km spools. t.me/PGITechnology/…

@battleguide I remember as a kid being able to explore every inch of the site. No paths. No railings. You could get inside every bunker as long as you could fit. H&S strikes again even when there was no need.

@nicholadrummond What about 1 Avn Brigade. You have them in the joint context but a key part of 3 Div.

Assuming a two division model, this is what I hope British Army 2030 will look like. 1 (UK) Division becomes the Expeditionary Force, a wheeled rapid reaction division designed to reinforce NATO worldwide. Built around Boxer and PM Medium / Light. Additional equipment purchases are Boxer Cavalry variant and HIMARS. 3 (UK) Division becomes the Manoeuvre Force, a tracked combined arms manoeuvre division, designed to operate in partnership with NATO allies in Europe. Built around Challenger 3, Ajax, and PM Medium / Light. Major additional purchase is an IFV based on Ajax (assuming Ajax is now fixed). These two elements would require 50K personnel.

@WhittakerHelen @Mr_Andrew_Fox Worryingly I now look more like a WO or an LE with the amount of grey hairs and scowl marks, frequently get mistaken for them.

Ah, memories.
On a Para smock, the rank slides for officers are on the shoulders. Other bits of kit, it’s usually centre of the chest.
Was at RAF Brize Norton one evening and a Flight Lieutenant (one rank down from me) walked past me without a salute. I thought “Meh, let it slide, it’s bad light, she probably didn’t clock the epaulettes, no need to be a dick about it.”
Then from behind me… “YOU! PARA! Fucking stand still!”
Station Warrant Officer comes storming over to me with his stick. Gesticulating with it, he goes off at me along the lines of: “That was an officer you just chinned off, you slack lot need to get a grip of yourselves, unacceptable, etc etc, give me the name of your sergeant major…”
Me, points to shoulders: “Woah, Warrant, stop stop stop. I think you mean “sir”, it’s you who owes me a salute, and it’s that Flight Lieutenant you need to be having this conversation with. Any further questions?”
He was left fairly speechless, bless him. It all ended amicably and we had a good chuckle about it. A good lesson about the challenges of operating in the joint environment…
