@HpcJohn With a bit of luck, yes. However, that’s often difficult, especially with the first generation of tapes.
English

@deccomputers I have a TK50 tape cartridge.
Can these still be read?
English

Picked up a few more machines: a #MicroVAX 3100/10, a #VAXstation 3100/M38, and a storage expansion unit the size of a VAXstation/MicroVAX 2000

English

@davepl1968 But the VAX 4000/705A also 16 years newer. My most recent AlphaServer ES40 certainly has a lot more processing power compared to the VAX 4000.
English

@deccomputers It's hard to believe that the 4000 is 48x as fast as an 11/780, especially since that's what we had in college for the entire department (an original 780)!
English

The #MicroVAX 3100/10 actually works (with a different power supply). It's nice to have a machine that isn't damaged by a leaking battery for once.

Technically, a VAX 4000/705A is also a MicroVAX, as it is still classified as one of the smaller VAX systems. The VAX 4000 series was the successor to the MicroVAX 3X00 series. The MicroVAX 3100/10 is the smallest in this series and quite slow at 2.4 VUP compared to the 45 VUP of the VAX 4000/705A, but it is also 7 years older (released in 1987). I’m running OpenVMS - as always - but netBSD would work naturally as well.
English

@deccomputers I've never had a MicroVAX - I've got a VAX4000-705A. How does the MicroVAX compare in terms of power and usability? What does it run?
English

@AlanSan01896098 First get it up and running, and then we'll see...

Added some FDDI hardware: The DECconcentrator 900TH is a dedicated #FDDI device. The copper ports are CDDI, i.e., FDDI over copper. I don't have any end devices to use it with yet, but that needs to change. Also, the ring needs to be wired here.

To keep things more organized, the #DEChub 90 and other network hardware on the workstations' and terminals' side are now also housed in a small network rack.
English

@indiawhiskey1 @BoscoMac @F4JSU I don't know. So far, I've just been looking at what's available in my area.
English

@dez_blanchfield Got this a while back along with a bunch of other stuff (AlphaServer 800, VT520, VT525, TK50 drive...). I was even able to choose the screen color (white or green).
English

@deccomputers where the hell did you get a 420 terminal?
I've been hunting far and wide for one!!!

English

@indiawhiskey1 @BoscoMac @F4JSU Fortunately, an interconnected TMO relay (DO0ATR) is available here. I'm excited to see how well it works.
English

@deccomputers @BoscoMac @F4JSU My respect if you are able to use tetra. I think network is not so widespread as DMR where with TG you can reach all world. Do you know if with tetra for OM you only speak with base station you are camped on, or BS is also connected to Internet?
English

@deccomputers @F4JSU Schreib mir mal eine PM, dann können wir uns abstimmen
Deutsch

@indiawhiskey1 @BoscoMac @F4JSU I've never used DMR before, but I suppose it's more common in the field of amateur radio. However, I'm familiar with Tetra from a different context.
English

73 DA6BOC

@S90079The It certainly won't be that hard, but it's also a matter of time. I didn't really study for N. The questions for E and A are definitely doable, but they require more studying.
English

@deccomputers Sure N is quite easy - but A or E are also managble. And there are quite cool courses there, one online training here on the local DARC devision.
English

@imtechboy411 Not directly at all - these are different networks. The Catalyst is connected to another Catalyst (3550), and the DEChub 90 is connected to a DEChub/Multiswtich 900. There’s also a media converter for a third network :)

English

@deccomputers I'm trying to see where the DECstuff connects to that Catalyst
English

Deutsch

@S90079The Even before RegTP ;) I'm not sure yet. For A and E, I'd just have to answer the technical questions now, and those weren't a big deal for N. It might be different for A ;)
English

@deccomputers Congratulations! Mine is stamped with „Bundesamt für Post und Telekommunikation“.
Whats next? A? :)
