@chasenoman @xaviersonline_ Very true, I myself did it privately. But I have a friend who did it at least in part for attention (showing off the cuts to me for example) and she was very clearly hurting and needed support. Everyone has their reasons.

I saw a video the other day where a dad handed his depressed son a handgun, daring him to do it. Without hesitation, the kid picked it up and blew himself away. Both parents were immediately distraught and falling over themselves.

As an ER nurse, its been crazy to see how much more efficient Chat GPT is at discharging "heart attack" patients than our doctors are. Future of medicine is now 🥳🥳

@marupan_desu I'm not trying to be rude or shame you btw, I just hear the talking point about how "trans men are men and men are bad" all the time and it feels the opposite of progressive.

@marupan_desu It's very reductionist to say that trans men "really are men." Trans men can be bad of course, but to act like as soon as someone identifies as a man they become "Bad" is just reinforcing the gender ideology that transphobes preach about.

I don't want to assume that my anxiety is the worst in the world, but my anxiety is very bad and yes I do get asked a LOT why I still wear a mask everywhere I go. It definitely doesn't help my anxiety. But it's important to me that I try my best to protect others.

@shadydoorags I do this all the time at my job. They say "put the box of envelopes in this bin" and I grab the box and proceed to put it in the bin. They say "not the box just the envelopes" and laugh at me like it's obvious. My brain just doesn't think the same way I can't help it 😭

I get that the joke is making fun of robots and their inability to perceive things as a human would, but scenarios like this have genuinely happened to me many times throughout my life and people have gotten angry at me because they thought that I was being a smart aleck. As a kid, it confused the crap out of me and all I could think was, "Why am I in trouble? I did what you told me to do!" This is a big reason I try not to yell "common sense" as a way to dismiss actions. There are well-meaning people out there who follow logic, just not everyone else's logic. Hanlon's razor and all that.

@synthsirena Yeah in my experience it's usually men :/ think it's because women have been socialized to be "listeners" and men are taught to be "leaders". Of course there's more nuance but for my life personally I've found that to be largely true.

@iamdeadhard @xaviersonline_ True. Even someone doing it solely for attention or exaggerating it is still someone who needs help and has bad mental health. There's always a reason behind why they are reaching out and a good support system could help them realize that they don't need to fake for attention.

@edirbb @MAXAWUMBA Depersonalization/derealization disorder may be the cause. I feel this way constantly as well and there are times where I look in the mirror and feel like I'm living in someone else's body. I recognize myself but feel as if it's not really me.

@SpiceQueen3096 @FNBHPHANTOM I don't think you are a bad person and it's an incredibly nuanced subject, but I'd just say that every once in a while try to check in on events happening around the world to make sure you're not unknowingly doing things that could indirectly hurt marginalized people.
