@fette_a@TheBreakdownAB Mocking my disgust towards MAID instead of answering the point. I still don't believe the government should authorize death as treatment.
From the DM’s…
There are growing concerns among physicians and healthcare workers that there are a LOT of unintended consequences and gaps in the UCP’s MAID legislation…
Do you think there should be a pause to allow these gaps to be addressed?

@fette_a@TheBreakdownAB I'm not much of a conservative so I don't care. I have my own reasons and you can't sit here and convince me it's justified.
It actually makes me sick.
@furmsies Canadians think of others than themselves? You're joking right?
Every time I see someone talk about hardship and living in poverty, there is a long list of comments gas lighting them.
"You can leave"
"it's not that bad, you're making it up"
"It's bad everywhere"
Do you love being Canadian?
Are you someone who thinks of others before thinking of themselves?
Are you part of the group fighting back against right wing extremism?
If so, let's be friends. Give me a Follow, or comment, and I will follow you as well.

@fette_a@TheBreakdownAB This is exactly why MAID keeps expanding.
Once death is accepted as a solution to suffering, the argument is no longer about limits. It's about which suffering qualifies.
@fette_a@TheBreakdownAB I guess we’re at an impasse.
You accept the state authorizing doctors to end lives. I don’t. Medicine should care, treat, and preserve, not kill.
To be blunt, MAID makes me sick. State-sanctioned death is still euthanasia, no matter how it’s framed.
Things age verification achieves:
• Violating adults' privacy online
• Creating leak and hack-worthy databases with tons of personal sensitive information
• Censoring the internet as a whole
Things age verification does not achieve:
• Protecting children online
@fette_a@TheBreakdownAB Call me whatever made up shit you want.
It's 100% wrong and I'll never respect anybody who stands for it. Especially with how it's been predictably expanded.
@initseven@TheBreakdownAB “I’ll die on that hill”
…while wishing to deny the terminally ill their right to end their suffering.
I thought Poilievre calling Carney “uneducated” was the dumbest thing said today until now.
@MarkJCarney I'm not coming together, you don't have any unity from me.
I'm going to ignore my country and work hard to improve my own situation rather than have any hope or faith that this country will turn itself around.
It's the only piece of the situation I have agency over.
@initseven@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt Agreed entirely. I'm not naive enough to think the conservatives will be the saviors of the free Internet. It's doomed regardless but an LPC majority is throwing gas on the fire.
As much as it might want to, the government can’t ban kids from social media.
All it can do is ban everyone — unless and until we ‘show our papers.’
No.
@BigMickThePrick@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt It's a very Christian thing to do. I remember they were the group that wanted to ban heavy metal and video games in the past.
@BigMickThePrick@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt I agree with your point but with an asterisk. Canada is just one country in a list of recent motions, including in the US. The west overall is locking down the internet.
I'm a Con too but I think if they were in government for a few years, they would start age verification too
@BigMickThePrick@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt I've been watching the Liberal party slowly lock down the internet for a long time now. They have a track record of this.
A lot of people forget that Davdeep Bains tried to introduce a digital charter way back in 2019.
This is a slow frog boil scenario
@BigMickThePrick@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt I agree there too. I've been working my way off social media since covid though and my response to it is log off.
I've been realigning my workflow so I compile all my software from source in case repos have to enforce age verification later and have built my own private intranet
@BigMickThePrick@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt I absolutely agree. I run a similar setup like that for my household by default but I'm the exception and it frustrates me that so many people won't know the difference.
I'm going to help advocate and show others at least though. Pfsense and openwrt are free.
@initseven@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt At that point the government's desired effect on the internet at large has been achieved.
Only a statistically insignificant number of people will be capible and willing to go that far.
@BigMickThePrick@Weird_Canadian@KMLOnt Even that's not as effective as they would have everyone believe. Enforce strict DoT and combine it with a VPN.
I'm not saying the government and ISPs don't have the tools, but it can be made to become too expensive to run that level of inspection without more cause.
