@matt_deuce Understood but the difference between 15 and 17 is very minimal. My point is I either want them to be in the top 10 or in the playoffs. All the top dmen will be gone by the 12th pick. I just don’t want them to finish in 13-16th range.

@markEmarkSJS If they make the playoffs then get smoked by the Avs, they’ll end up with the 17th pick. If they miss and go to the lottery, they could end with a pick as high as 5, no lower than 15. The playoff experience(Avs in 5) is not worth missing out on a top 15 pick imo

Bomb every single game and gain some leverage in the draft lottery. Draisaitl is out for EDM so hopefully they’ll slide too. Two lottery picks benefit this team far more than 5 games of playoff experience.

7 of the next 9 Sharks games are against teams NOT currently in a playoff position. It’s do or die time if the Sharks are going to squeeze into the playoffs. With 15 games left, I’m thinking the Sharks need at least 9 wins, probably more like 10 to get in the playoffs.

@AlDaugereaux @Hopeful_Hal Currently just Ferraro, but long history of crossover between the two. Braun, Irwin, Leonard in the NHL. Fenton, Marcou, Vanroboys in the AHL.

@AlDaugereaux @Hopeful_Hal Agree for sure on the type of player. I want the Sharks to get a strong two way dman who can play physically for 23-25 mins per game.

@markEmarkSJS @Hopeful_Hal Maybe, but I mean someone like him, a complete 2 way d man. I would do it for Parayko though, he’ll be 33 in May. That gives you 3 more years of really solid D. With the cap space the Sharks have, and that Macklin guy, the window opens next year, with 2 or 3 good moves!

@AlDaugereaux @Hopeful_Hal I think that’s an overpay. Too old. Top 10 pick you gotta be getting a dman in his mid 20’s.

@markEmarkSJS @Hopeful_Hal That said, if I can get someone like Parayko for the top 10 pick, another pick, and a prospect, I’m doing it, if I’m the Sharks.

@markEmarkSJS @Hopeful_Hal Yeah I like this idea. Using the higher pick on a forward is kind of a waste. The top 9 is already getting crowded! I have seen Musty seems to be figuring in out in the AHL. He and Cherny are both full time top 9 next year (Cherny top 6)

@AlDaugereaux @Hopeful_Hal Thoughts: Pohlkamp is 200+ and doesn’t play like 5’10. Havelid is never going to be in our top 6. Cags is more of a PP specialist who would be paired with a defensive player. Surround them with bigger dmen. LSW is the other guy I’m keeping an eye on. He might be 2nd best.

@markEmarkSJS @Hopeful_Hal The other issue is Pohlkamp is 5’10, Cags is 5’9, Havelid is 5’10. It’s ok to have one of these guys, but if 3 of your best prospects at D are 5’10, that’s an issue.

@AlDaugereaux @Hopeful_Hal Ehh if they get a 10 pick, I’m using it on this good crop of dmen. I’d pack the Edmonton pick and more for an established d-man. Rudolph, Carels, Reid, Verhoeff or Smits would all be huge adds to the future and all would probably be ready within 1-2 years.

@markEmarkSJS @Hopeful_Hal Also to be clear, I think they should try to use the draft picks to trade for defenseman. I don’t think you want to try to draft D men and wait another 3-4 years.

@AlDaugereaux @Hopeful_Hal I’d like to see Bystedt, Musty, Cagnoni and Pohlkamp get some games. Problem is they didn’t sell off at the deadline like past seasons so there’s lots of players with the team.

@markEmarkSJS @Hopeful_Hal Agree, that’s why I say the Sharks losing is the best outcome, that gets them the highest pick possible. They should call up Bystedt, Musty, Havelid, and anyone else to get them some experience for next year.

@AlDaugereaux @Hopeful_Hal Yea, Sharks could still finish with top 5-6 odds in the draft. Long term that’s probably better than losing to Colorado in 4 games and getting the 16th pick.

@Hopeful_Hal @markEmarkSJS I dont think top 5 is possible, even if they lost every game. With how good Colorado is, I dont think there is any benefit to whoever plays them. Whoever is WC2 gets swept. Hell whoever wins the Pacific, could get swept by Colorado lol.

@Hopeful_Hal @AlDaugereaux As much as I think Drai being hurt and having a fairly tough remaining schedule hurts them, Edmonton isn’t missing the playoffs. Have to hope they lose in first round so the pick is in the late teens. I worry they hit the playoffs and go on a run and then the pick is late 20’s.

@detrimen_tal Yea that’s fair, playing the Avs is most likely scenario and would be awful. Chances of catching Vegas as well isn’t high.

@markEmarkSJS they’re not ready. it’s a nice story but i’d rather get picks and keep our guys healthy than get humiliated by the avs and be more likely to have another mushy-middle-bubble-year

@markEmarkSJS The better result is to tank. They could then use the two first round picks (one possibly top 10,) and a forward to get some defensive help. Might be able to get 3 good defensemen with that!

@CyclonePilot06 @Moz_Morris I don’t think comparing Dickinson to the other Sharks D should be the standard. We know our entire D corps sucks. It’s why the Sharks aren’t a better team. Dickinson has his good moments but let’s not pretend he’s playing well. Yes, some of that is a product of his partner.

No. It isn’t. Dickinson bodies Zucker. Just like the coaches tell him to. There’s very little he can do to “take him out”. The only way would have been to take a penalty. People keep pretending the other player doesn’t have a say and that’s absolutely absurd. Dickinson comes back hard after a stupid turnover. Zucker holds up for a second at the blue line. Dick is the only one back because Mario is in no man’s land, so he has to hold up so Zucker doesn’t have the center lane to take straight to the net. Zucker sees this and, like a smart player, as soon as Dick holds up, Zucker starts driving down the wall, so Sam doesn’t even have time to end the play without risking getting beat along the boards and being behind Zucker with a clear lane to the net. So as he’s driving down, Sam bodies him up and pushes him to the outside where the only play is a pass. Could he have done more to prevent the pass? Maybe. Maybe it still gets through regardless. But that’s not a goal if Mario is in position and not puck watching, or any of the other four players on the ice got their asses back after the turnover. Instead Dahlin beats everyone up the ice. Which is utterly inexcusable and not Sam’s fault. There is a reason after the 2nd period he got back onto the ice. I guarantee you the coaches reviewed the tape and realized it wasn’t remotely his fault. As for the assertion that Sam all the time does a lot of little things that result in goals against. That’s entirely false. On occasion he screws up (far less than Ferraro, Klingberg, Leddy, Muhk or Orlov), which is to be expected. But relative to the team the Sharks goaltending has a far lower save percentage when he’s on the ice. Partially because he’s unlucky but partially because he’s mostly deployed with bottom six (primarily the 4th line), who give up slot shots in droves and can’t catch an outlet pass to save their lives.
