Is the war in Ukraine just or not?
Most people would probably assume I’m talking about Russia’s action in Ukraine. But, frankly, it’s a horribly vague and imprecise question because it isn’t clear *which* moral agent I’m referring to. So is the war in Ukraine just? No, if we’re talking about Russian aggression. Yes, if we’re talking about the legitimate use of force to defend Ukraine against that aggression.
The fact is that people colloquially use terms like “war” and “waging war” to refer to the belligerent who initiated hostilities. When we consider that Pope Leo has elsewhere (and recently) upheld military service, calling it necessary in this world in order to defend oneself and intervene against aggression, it becomes clear that he is condemning *aggression* and not the legitimate use of force.
NB: “Aggression” is a moral and legal term referring to the unjustified initiation of hostilities. It does not refer to offensive action, as such. Remember, that the requirements for a just war include the prospect of victory. And it is exceedingly difficult (arguably impossible) to achieve victory without gaining and exploiting the strategic initiative - and that means offensive action (with the criteria of discrimination and proportionality still being applicable, of course.)

Palestinians are truly the unluckiest people in the world.
The "activists" willing to commit crimes and go to prison for 20 to life for their cause are so fucking stupid that they can't even do the basic research to find out that the factory they attacked didn't produce a single screw that went to Israel.
It did produce equipment that was vital to Ukraine defending itself from the Russian invasion though.
