The punk rocker was told to and agreed to perform “Less Than Zero” on Saturday Night Live, but seconds into the song, he stopped his band and launched into his media-critical anthem instead. NBC executives were outraged at the unauthorized performance criticizing broadcast media.
Costello was banned from SNL for nearly 12 years. He was allowed to return in 1989 and jokingly referenced the incident. The episode was pulled from rebroadcasts and compilation specials until the complete SNL archives were made available.

The 1st Amendment says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
Jefferson, Franklin, and Paine were Deists who did not embrace organized religion.
Washington, John Adams, Madison, and Monroe were Protestants but not strident (Adams rejected the Trinity and Washington rarely discussed religion and refused to take communion, suggesting Deist sympathies).
Sam Adams and John Jay were strong Protestants (and Jay was anti-Catholic).
So, no, the Founding Fathers were not all Christians, and they did not mean to exclude non-Christians from America.
