There's nothing 'wrong' with the climate. Change is natural & inevitable - stasis is impossible given the continuous change in planetary positioning to the sun

@DPJHodges If this result is taken to be a reflection of the country as a whole - and therefore the likely result of a GE - then the Conservatives, Lib Dems and Greens no longer exist as parties, in effect. At least try and view the result in its context.

@afneil @JohnRentoul I honestly believe there is no way (or no will) to fix this. The solutions are just way too painful.

A welcoming present just out this morning for a Mr A Burnham to underline just how limited his latitude as PM will be: The UK government borrowed £23.3 billion last month, 30 per cent or £5.4 billion higher than a year earlier. It was also more than the £18.8 billion expected by most economists and the £17.7 billion forecast by the Office for Budget Responsibility, the UK’s independent fiscal watchdog.  The interest payable on government debt rose to £11.7 billion, the highest ever recorded in any May.

Remarkable victory for the Tories in Aberdeen South, beating SNP 50% to 29% — as resounding as Burnham in Makerfield. But it’s not replicable for the Tories on a national scale — and before the year is out Labour will discover that neither is Makerfield.

🚨 CONFIRMED: The climate hoax revealed: Leading physicist Dr. William Happer: "More CO₂ is good for the world... It's absurd to be trying to reduce CO₂." "We're in a CO₂ famine now... So it's unbelievable that they've managed to turn this beneficial gas, a part of life, into a threat."

'Andy Burnham is like a PE teacher, it’s laughable that he could run the country.' @RachelSJohnson can't imagine ‘a more damaging thing to do to the country’ than replacing Keir Starmer with a man whose ‘main achievement' is deregulating Manchester’s busses.

John Healey has done the whole of Britain a great service. He has reminded us that the first duty of any government is the protection of our country and its people. It is non-discretionary and non-negotiable. Unlike other areas of expenditure like welfare, health or education, when it comes to defence, we must spend whatever is necessary to meet the external threats we face.

This is genuinely worrying. I've gone on the record on a number of occasions to acknowledge @AndyBurnhamGM's real bipartisan strengths. I've admired him since we 'teamed up' (@ConHome and him) to unsuccessfully oppose the disastrous Lansley NhS reforms. He was more interested in principle than party then and I still see so much of that in him today. But there is no money left! We have no operable military. The young need affordable housing and the private sector won't supply enough of it. We need radical welfare reform (which won't save money in the short-term). A higher tax burden will accelerate Rachel Reeves' brain drain. Sending billions to any other causes is completely unaffordable. Is Andy Burnham serious? I'm very concerned.

NEW: Andy Burnham has hinted at a new multibillion-pound spending commitment if he becomes PM, saying that more than 3.5mn women “deserve” compensation over what he regards as a pension scandal Earlier I attended a Makerfield hustings event hosted by @MENnewsdesk, in which Burnham said: “I stick by campaigners that I support. I stuck by the Hillsborough families, I’ll stick by the Waspi women because they deserve some recompense for the unfairness.” Stressing he wouldn’t ditch his longterm support for Waspi women, he said he felt “uncomfortable” that some politicians threw their support behind a cause but then went into government and “didn’t do anything” ft.com/content/1021ae…

The nauseating hypocrisy of E Miliband is jaw-dropping. He and his kind across the political class — Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, SNP — promoted the very energy policies that lumbered Britain with the highest industrial energy costs in the world, making industries like steel uneconomic. They tolerated no dissent from their net zero nonsense even as deindustrialisation gathered pace. And now Miliband has the audacity to pose as the saviour of British steelworkers! In truth, the British political class has shamefully failed them, none more so than net zero zealot Miliband.
Ed Miliband@Ed_Miliband

Very proud to be in the House today to see my colleagues @jreynoldsMP and @LabourSJ standing up for British steelworkers and industry. This Government is delivering the muscular industrial policy this country needs in uncertain times.

This is deeply troubling. I hope my union - @fbunational - will explain to fire service bosses that firefighters must be free to express their political views without fear of sanction by their employer. @manchesterfire has seriously overstepped the mark here.
The Free Speech Union@SpeechUnion

Senior figures at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, under the command of Andy Burnham, have cautioned firefighters who support Reform UK over their political views. In a further chilling assault on free speech, staff have also effectively been urged in an email to report colleagues who support Reform. Fire brigade bosses have also said they are seeking legal advice on what to do about firefighters who decide to stand as Reform UK candidates. This is despite the fact that, unlike police officers, there is no legal bar preventing firefighters from participating in national or local politics. In their email, fire brigade bosses Mr Petch and Ms Ahmed said: ’We are aware that some staff members have chosen to represent Reform UK in their local areas. We know this may cause concern within our network and wider. ’The individuals involved have been spoken to, to make it clear that as members of GMFRS (Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service) our core values and professional behaviours must be displayed at all times. ’The service is currently seeking formal legal guidance… to ensure we are protected from all perspectives and that our inclusive culture remains safe. ‘Our priority is and always will be ensuring that every member of this network feels supported, respected and safe at work.’ They also confirmed that they would be consulting the Fire Brigades Union on the matter. In his role as Mayor of Greater Manchester, @AndyBurnhamGM — who is also tipped by some to be a future Prime Minister if he wins the Makerfield by-election — is also Greater Manchester’s Fire Commissioner, responsible for overseeing the service. General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young of Acton, has now written to Mr Burnham to raise concerns about the chilling effect this has on free speech. Lord Young said that the ‘clear implication’ of the email from the fire brigade bosses was that ‘representing Reform UK constitutes an inherent threat to the institution’s culture and values and is to be treated as morally suspect’. He also highlighted that no action appears to have been taken against firefighters who support other political parties. The letter also states: ‘Staff are further invited to report colleagues who support any groups that go against the service’s values, which effectively amounts to an instruction to inform on colleagues for their political beliefs. ’The email will create a chilling effect on the free speech of GMFRS employees who support Reform. ’The practical effect is that a public fire and rescue service governed by you is treating the lawful political activity of your electoral opponents as a reputational risk to their employer. ‘Regardless of whether this reflects your instruction, it reflects your governance; and a public office-holder who permits his institution to demonise or chill the speech and political activity of those who support his principal electoral rival cannot claim to be discharging that office with the impartiality it demands.’ Read more below 👇

Utterly damning. @DavidLammy hoist by his own petard. He demanded "righteous anger" over George Floyd but condemned JD Vance for expressing "righteous anger" over Ben Nowak. Proper journalism by @TrevorPTweets.

SUPERB! Trevor Phillip's BEAUTIFULLY exposes David Lammy and Labour's sickening hypocrisy. He shows him the receipts of them ALL saying it's ok to feel "fury" and "anger" over George Floyd, while they criticise Farage for saying the same about Henry Nowak. Satisfying to watch.

This exchange is so revealing. Kenyon points out the obvious - that the more people that enter a country, the more houses that country will need. But upon hearing the argument that immigration puts pressure on the housing supply, the Green candidate immediately defaults to her "I'm shocked and horrified you could ever say such a thing!" mode. The funny thing is, she ends up agreeing with him, but even then she tries to pretend he has said something appalling. This is what happens when politics is rooted in feelings rather than facts.
