Migrated our database from Google CloudSQL over to a Hetzner bare metal server last week.
The performance/cost gains are amazing.
But damn, didn't expect both disks in a RAID-1 setup to fail within 3 days. And pretty much at the same time.

L2s will have fast money. Lots of small volume transactions.
L1 is the heart of liquidity. Fewer transactions but substantially bigger in size.

Stables found PMF through everyone and their mom adding payments to their funnel, seeing 90% of the supply on the L1 is interesting though, are people mainly using them for yield and not to perform cheap payments?
Even though the L2 thesis has changed, I can still see payment-focused L2s thrive and capture more supply in the near future

Impressive @0xPolygon is doing more TPS than other L2s like Base, Arbitrum, MegaETH, and OP.

@peter_szilagyi @growthepie_eth I didn't read that the "entire discussion" was supposed to be around issuance.
It read more as a dunk on Ethereum in general.
And I wanted to show a bunch of charts that don't look like "ETH is shit".
Issuance is in there btw - we are down from 15%/yr to +- 1%/yr -> no shit

Ethereum is getting faster.
Deposit time from L1 to L2s and exchanges goes down to 13 seconds.
This is the new industry standard.

💯 L2s had a hard time the past months, but it's just noise.
In the long run the strategy is still sound:
- L1 as the liquidity + security layer
- L2s pulling in additional demand (for things that wouldn't be feasible on L1)
I know sentiment is down and the space got more competitive (which is good!) but we are still growing the pie 🥧

agree rather than overcorrecting, Ethereum should: - clarify the roles of L1 and L2 - keep scaling & improving UX - invest more on the demand side - make it easier for L2s to access L1 liquidity - ensure L1 has deepest liquidity - ensure L1 provides strongest guarantees of neutrality/censorship resistance/security/resilience - ensure L2s can act as trust-minimized distribution engines for Ethereum and deliver their own differentiated and valuable products on top of the L1 platform - less alignment games and more positive sum games

To be clear: I'm still happy about the move to Hetzner! I don't expect that this complete fallout will happen again anytime soon.
Wrt local LLMs - I'm sure many ppl are overengineering but for some use-cases it can make a lot of sense.
The positive spin to overengineering: you get familiar with how the tech works.

This is exactly how I feel about the host your local LLM model people. Hey work is 90% cheaper already with models. You can save another 50% by melting your PC and drawing wild electricity amounts. Oh and its not as good either.

Got new nvmes, restored everything from a backup, and hope I won't be bothere now in the next 3 years

@web3_data My serverbörse’s nvmes are just fine :)
In almost 20 years of hosting with them i only ever had 1 hdd breaking, i have to say you sound terribly unlucky.
If i were you id ask to be moved to a different datacenter. Falkenstein is good

@axatbhardwaj we were on AWS and GCP before (and still have some small services there) but the main stuff will be running on Hetzner from now on
