Trump's comments are nonsense and encapsulate why finding a diplomatic solution to this war is proving so difficult. The Iranian "deep state" is negotiating with what we can call the American "shallow state." I can't see any way in which what Trump is saying in this interview aligns with the kinds of intelligence assessments that should be coming out of the interagency process. No credible experts think Iran is days away from a catastrophe in its oil sector and it should be clear that economic pressure will not decisively tilt the balance of negotiations in Trump's favor. So someone outside of government is feeding the president a grossly exaggerated assessment of how the blockade might impact Iran's oil production. If Trump genuinely thinks that Iran's oil "lines" are going to "explode" then one of two things must be happening. Either his cabinet is not briefing him about the reality of the situation to counteract the politically-motivated assessments he is being spoon-fed, or, more concerningly, Trump *is* getting briefed but fails to hear, struggles to understand, or refuses to believe what he is being told by his advisors. For all the talk of the "deep state" what we actually have in the U.S. is a "shallow state," where national security policy is being determined without reliance on an interagency process nor the robust assessments such a process produces. As result, Trump's policy towards Iran lacks a connection with reality. So here's the big question... How can Iran and the U.S. agree on a deal when they can barely agree on reality?

The White House posting a graphic from the pro-Israel think tank, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), illustrates just how influential the pro-Israel lobby is within the Trump administration. The U.S. IC assessed that Iran was not seeking a nuclear weapon, yet unverified information from pro-Israel groups dominated the intelligence reaching POTUS in the lead-up to the war. The tragic part is that the successful Iran policy Trump enacted in his first term—and was enacting this time around—was working, and he was on his way to securing a much better deal than the JCPOA. This was a threat to Israel’s goal of getting the U.S. to provide the combat power for regime change in Iran. Groups like FDD, members of the media, donors, and key Israeli officials played a key role in convincing Trump that his policy should shift to zero enrichment and that the Iranian regime would quickly crumble if he struck now. Hopefully, POTUS will look at the results of the advice he has received from FDD and the Israel-first/neocon lobby and correct course.

You are a complete moron, Pete. First, Obama's "agreement" basically gave Iran unlimited cash to harden their terror proxy network and stockpile ballistic missiles while simply delaying the inevitable — large-scale LEGAL enrichment with zero breakout time and the military power to use it. Second, Iran's real enrichment acceleration happened under Biden because he was WEAK — loosening sanctions, easing pressure, and working to reopen their pathway to a legal nuclear program. Instead of legitimizing Iran's nuclear weapons program, President Trump is focused on ending it.

This is almost beyond parody. I challenge you to find me another country that members of the US Congress speak about in this way, with this tone and passion. I dare you.

“In the United States Congress, I will continue to fight for the people of Israel,” U.S. House Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Birmingham, said in Dec. 2023 at Hanukkah menorah lighting in Detroit. “Israel comes to me in my dreams. I see Israel’s future.” From livestream:

$AMZN CEO: "If our chips business was a standalone business and sold chips produced this year to AWS and other third parties as other leading chip companies do, our annual revenue run rate would be $50 billion. As best as we can tell, our custom silicon business is now one of the top three data center chip businesses in the world. And the speed at which we've gotten here is extraordinary"
