Further proof that the Hollywood Entertainment Factory is alive and well in 2026 is Antoine Fuqua’s biopic Michael, that despite being a puff piece is an entertaining and moving musical experience that had me, and anyone else who loved Michael Jackson, choked up and grieving the loss of his light all over again. Not an easy movie to pull off, and Jaafar Jackson bravely fills the shoes. A Hollywood that puts this film into theaters, and has audiences leaving happy, isn’t dead. Sorry.

With all due respect, wtf ru talking about. We can grasp onto straws to awesome storytellers like Fuqua… But they are few, far and in between vs the insane horseshit woke disaster that has been pushing millions of gallons per second of radioactive waste down our throats for … 10 years? More? One director, one writer, one film in 50, is not healthy. YOU know this. We cannot settle for shit. I never “made it” Roger… so salt to taste compared to your well earned legacy… but what the fuck are we talking about here. I’m literally watching Mad Max Fury Road in my home right now, full blast on a 15 year old 1080p Samsung and new Yamaha surround sound and holy shit dude, ru gonna tell me anything comes close? To this? Or Master & Commander? Or Once upon a time in HW.. PULP?!!!! Project Hail Mary was great… but we are so thirsty for great story telling, we’ll settle for drops of water in the desert. ROGER, we… what’s left of the lovers of cinema, and the potential next generation of storytellers DEMAND THAT YOU, the stewards of this great craft do not allow us to believe that this… status quo is representative of this storied craft. God damn it, Roger… Things are NOT well. Things are NOT healthy. It is time to fight and call this bullshit out. You KNOW it. So stop pretending. FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT!!!! I’m tired of watching your films, and QTs, and Hell, Stevens and Marty’s and wallowing and in the depressive state of what was… You have a OBLIGATION as a steward of this craft… to DEMAND MORE… Because has beens… never weres… Like me…. Don’t have the power to change it. It’s up to you… and your fellows.. To fight. Sincerely, A fan. A filmmaker. A member of the audience in the musky, improperly lit, horribly audio calibrated and candle lit projector… movie lover

@AVARY @RMBee Forgive me for resorting to the kind of crackpottery you yourself are prone to, Roger, but everything now sounds like you're kissing the belly of some covert overlord as opposed to accurately describing a state of affairs. Desperately shilling for cybernetic barons.

@AVARY The health of cinema aside, Fuqua is underrated. He’s not an “auteur” so he goes unnoticed, but he’s one of the last pure movie entertainers. He even made a “pt. 3” in an action series that was damn good. I don’t know if others’ll miss him when he’s gone, but I certainly will.

@AVARY I’ve only seen the scene with the chimp, and it’s hands down the best/worst thing I’ve seen in a long while.

@AVARY The kid did a great job. Best part of the production imo, surprised me. Really liked some of the detail only the family could provide - joe calling a family meeting while he eats lunch. For biopics - told the beats, entertained. Nice review roger

@AVARY Wasn’t Lionsgate the last studio they shopped it to? This reminds me when Peter Jackson last studio pitch brought Lord of the Rings to Bob Shaye & offered 2 films. Shaye said “ Wasn’t there 3 books? “ I miss New Line Cinema and those old Hollywood studio mavericks

@AVARY Everyone I know that’s seen it says something similar and that it’s amazing. But nothing of that ilk from any media. I think the critics gave it a generally mixed response.

@AVARY Michael will be the only good Hollywood movie of 2026, just as Jared Hess’s Minecraft was the only good Hollywood film of last year. boxd.it/e89hB1

@AVARY Reminded me of John Carpenter's Elvis TV movie. From everything I heard, I thought it would be way more of a whitewashing but there's a lot subtext in those scenes, even the visual palette of the movie is a comment.
