Sad. Presuming competence is the least dangerous assumption. No one said a nonspeaking person has to be revealed as secretly intelligent to deserve dignity. That is whoever runs this account's twisted interpretation. What is the motivation of this group to destroy something that is improving lives? Guilt? Guilt they're not willing or able to give their own children the benefit of the doubt? That they are competent & much more capable than we were told by the "experts". Jealousy? That families who have taken this leap of faith are seeing positive returns. Their loved one thriving with Spelling & all that it encompasses. What is with these moms who have it out for spelling?

"The facilitated communication movement is built on a hidden premise — that a nonspeaking person needs to be revealed as secretly intelligent in order to deserve dignity. The healthier ground is that profoundly autistic people deserve dignity, autonomy, and care as they are." jkancir.substack.com/p/the-plastic-…

@and_kell Umm this is a very very bizarre take. So this means that if a person who was wheelchair bound suddenly found a way to walk that encouraging and helping others to walk and celebrating they can walk is harmful to those who might never escape a wheelchair? REALLY please think!
