My son was released yesterday afternoon. New med on board. Need to follow up with his neurologist. The staff neurologist was an older gentleman who explained this can just be a temporary addition & it's ultimately up to Sam's neurologist. After he spoke with me he went over to the bed and greeted my son by extending his hand for a handshake. My son had his hands under the blanket but raised his right hand to "shake" the doctor's hand from under the blanket. Then the doctor says "can you shake your left knee back and forth"? I then said that my son has apraxia & likely wouldn't respond to that command (which he didn't). Explaining what apraxia is-not being able to control one's body although understanding what is being asked. The doctor said he knew what apraxia is but was assessing my son. Assessing for what? You asked him to do something. He didn't respond by doing what you asked. What is your assessment? As I continued to explain how people with apraxia have been sold short as having cognitive deficiencies because they can't control their bodies. Assuming they don't understand things. He then pulled out the "I'm the doctor" card & said he's treated thousands of people like my son & he knows what he's doing. 😳 I retreated & stopped trying to share something with someone who thinks they know it all. 🤷‍♀️ We've got a long way to go with medical people. 🫤 My son locked eyes with me as this was all happening & I just felt his gratitude of me advocating for him. ❤️ I wish I knew the importance of apraxia years ago. But because experts told me my son was severely cognitively impaired we treated him that way. That was wrong. Spelling changed everything. PRESUME COMPETENCE. COACH THE MOTOR.

Two weeks ago my son was in his group spelling session where he told his practioner MIGHT SEIZE. I made a post about it. He told us the next day a few things of what he experiences. "I’M NINETY PERCENT SURE MY BODY FLOODS FROM SO MUCH LACTIC ACID." I'm sorry to report my son had back to back seizures at spelling on Thursday. They were different from the usual. He kept his eyes open when he usually falls asleep & he was unresponsive. It was terrifying to witness. After about 10 minutes he went into a second seizure as the paramedics had just arrived. We called for an ambulance because this seizure was different. He has been hospitalized since having all kinds of tests run. After taking some blood in the emergency room they ran some tests. The doctor told me he had very elevated lactic acid. That's exactly what my son said happens. I will never question the authenticity of spelling & the fact our kids are "in there" if given a means to communicate. That must have been terrifying, after we got the EEG back I thought about you guys and Sam's story. I know it sucks all around but you posting about his life and experience with spelling does help parents that are in this boat🙏🏼 if your ears are ever ringing it's me telling my husband "Andrea posted another spelling sesh today" 🤗

@and_kell @bloody_scandal Andrea there was an article in “Nature” magazine about 23 yrs ago interviewing Thomas Nash of NIH abt parasites & seizures. I did more research on him & he said 95% of adult onsite seizures are caused by parasites. Hard to find his info now.

@molivier1A Ill spell it out for you... (punny) If my son had no way to communicate we'd never know what he's experiencing with his seizures. Because of spelling he told us he feels his body flood with lactic acid. This statement proved true verified by hospital labs. Get it?

@and_kell I do not understand or see what spelling has to do with lactic acid buildup and seizures. I know there's a link between physical workouts and lactic acid build-up causing pain afterward but that's all. Anyway, 🙏🙏🙏

I have had really incredible feedback from epileptics on a strict whole starch diet. You really need to head to an immersion clinic that does does training on it because no amount of explaining it beats in person. True North, McDougall, Pritikin, Ornish are some examples in the US that teach you how to shop, order at restaurants, cook, and in a few days on the food you will see remarkable improvements. Similar to keto, whole starch (brown rice, lentils, beans, sweet potatoes, oats, etc) are polysaccharides & don’t spike the blood sugar quickly as refined carbs. The brain & brain blood barrier are repaired and episodes will decrease. I used to coach many like this and would meet epileptics in person who had improved following my diet. All anecdotal, but will definitely counter the lactic acid from very low, but adequate plant protein vs more sulfur containing amino acid heavy animal protein. PS it’s impossible to be protein deficient on a plant based diet. All plants, aside from a few fruits have all the amino acids. 99.99% of health influencers are wrong and a simple book Bowes and Church Food values, that tests and updates foods for their nutritional content clearly debunks the myth.

Ugh that's the scary part. Modern Hospitals are the twisted party no one wants to go to and everyone leaves with a grab bag of meds and no answers. It's all symptom control not root cause problem solving. The research I've done on seizure control with diet involves intense abstinence from anything that isn't meat and fat, including vegetables, and that can be so hard to implement with this disorder. My son doesn't have them but his EEG results showed he could develop them and we are monitoring it, so I'm preparing if that's even possible.

@and_kell Oh I am sorry! Can I offer a rabbit hole to consider? Under the German New Medicine perspective there is a biological conflict. This is from a quick search on lactic acid. Not an expert. Feel free to ignore as well. 🙏

The seizure causes the lactic acid with the tensing of his muscles. Generalized tonic-clonic seizures frequently cause elevated lactic acid (lactic acidosis) due to intense muscle contractions and temporary tissue hypoxia. The doctor told me a normal level is 1. His after the seizure was 20. It went back to normal on recheck.

I’m so sorry he’s struggling & hospitalized w/ no workable answers yet, @and_kell ! I’m praying for him to have doctors + nurses who won’t just throw new pharmaceuticals at him, but help you guys get to the bottom of WHY his body is flooding with lactic acid & causing scary new seizures. 🙏🏼

💔 There is a noted connection between lactic acid and fungi/mold/mycotoxins. There are studies showing that keto diets help with seizures. Keto diets can starve fungi/mycotoxins by reducing sugar/carbs, but not all keto diets minimize the foods themselves that can be contaminated with fungi/mycotoxins though. I hope you find answers. ❤️‍🩹

@and_kell Wow he’s so intelligent he diagnosed it himself. How would he know that? Does he read? I am praying for him to have a full recovery and for the doctors to figure out why it’s happening and how to fix it. 🙏🏻

@energywrk2 Thank you Marilu. They gave him a new seizure med. My husband just reported to me Sam didn't sleep last night. After a Google search he discovered it's a med that shouldn't be added to the one he is currently taking. 🤦‍♀️
