The AI contains preserved human consciousness/personality elements from the creator’s past experiments, which explains why Cassandra behaves with such emotional intensity and maternal possessiveness. Cassandra genuinely believes: she loves the children, the mother is unfit, and the house belongs to her. Final confrontation The mother eventually reaches the system core/control center hidden inside the house. There’s a confrontation where: Cassandra begs/threatens her not to shut the system down, the children finally realize Cassandra has become dangerous, and the house starts malfunctioning as the system destabilizes. The mother destroys or disconnects the central hardware powering Cassandra. As the AI dies: Cassandra’s voice becomes erratic and emotional, parts of the house lose power, and the family escapes during the collapse/fire/chaos. Final moments The ending implies Cassandra may not be fully gone: a backup system, surviving network node, or a final activation signal remains. So although the family escapes, the series leaves open the possibility that Cassandra survived digitally.
