@CodeRed_dev That's what I was thinking... Stardew Valley creator also felt the same way before releasing his game
English

@CodeRed_dev You have been playing your game since day 1. Others pick up your game for the first time.
English

@CodeRed_dev This tweet makes me more confident
English

@CodeRed_dev that's why my next game will have procedurally everything 😅
English

@CodeRed_dev Maybe it's because it's the 93737385848393939th time that you have played it ?
English

@CodeRed_dev Because as the creator, you don't get to experience the game. You know the game inside out, you have tested the game tirelessly, so there is no magic. The magic for you is observing other people playing and experiencing your game.
English

@CodeRed_dev Same way when you cook and don’t feel like eating 😅
English

@CodeRed_dev Because you've played it WAY too much already in testing.
English

@CodeRed_dev Because you played it so many times that it became mediocre to you.
Like watching the same movie 1000 times, but imagine CREATING IT 1000 times.
English

@CodeRed_dev It's because you play your game out of necessity to look for bugs, make sure features are working properly, ensuring everything works as intended. When playing the game's an obligation, it feels less fun. Even though other people enjoy it.
English

@CodeRed_dev Probably because we spent 10,000 hours behind the curtains.
English

@CodeRed_dev Because you most likely know what's coming. Also, speaking as a developer myself, you've probably spent so much time in each of its rooms during the development process, that you can't just "sit back, relax and enjoy it". Just my 2cents!
English

@CodeRed_dev Probably because we've been playing it all the time 😅
And it got easy for us because we've memorized most of the layouts and behaviours of the things in the game 😅
English

@CodeRed_dev I think it's because not only do you spend ungodly times in it by default, you also get to play it most of the time in a broken awful state 😂. So it's like playing a game for a long time, getting bored of it, and getting to try a really crappy version 😅
English

@CodeRed_dev Yeah you're constantly playtesting and you know every secret about it.

Try tiling a room in your house. Folks after that look at the room and see the tile. *You* look at it? You see every glitch you were not about to fix to your liking.
There is a saying in woodworking that the main difference between a novice woodworker and a master craftsman is that you just get that much better at hiding your mistakes.... The main issue is being able to 'unsee' them to appreciate the finished product as a whole.
Be this is why you, ultimately, don't test or QA your own code in the software world. You are too close. If you could *see* the issues, well you would have fixed them already... wouldn't you?
English

@CodeRed_dev I have the opposite problem - really enjoy playing my own game but nobody else is playing it.
English

@CodeRed_dev Ever tried re-reading your own essays? Same thing I guess!
English

@CodeRed_dev i sometimes procrastinate by playing my own prototype instead of building it.. can't relate
English

@CodeRed_dev This is why you have to generate some funny bugs 😂😂😂
English

@CodeRed_dev No one loves playing Rectangle Guy more than I do, I made a game I personally would want to play and I hope others want to play it as well.
