@CodeRed_dev In my experience .blend files don't work for almost anything but blender. I am honestly shocked people still use blender at all. Its great for modeling and rigging but if you have to export your model to another program it normally has some pretty big problems
English

@CodeRed_dev maya doesn't support that format, and maya was the industry norm for a long time. So...
English

@CodeRed_dev In my case, unreal doesn't like .blend files. Godot uses them okay, but the import process is a bit wonky.
English

@CodeRed_dev tell that to the Unity Engine-
English

@CodeRed_dev Fbx all the way, that is until USD becomes standard
English

@CodeRed_dev I know this is a joke but some people really don't know how incredibly optimized using .obj files are.
I've opened projects that litterally everything was an FBX file, even particle and collider objects.
I miss when peeps cared about my space on my pc, lol.
English

@CodeRed_dev I didn't realize you could impot blend files into unity until a few days ago.
English

@CodeRed_dev what? bro is diferent, .blend is more only be used on blender because come with all windows, shaders, geometris and more configuration, those are useless in any other engine, while FBX, and GLTF are universal scene and material configured for the mesh, with animation too
English

@CodeRed_dev Because you can select just what you need and export to FBX, is one reason.
English

@CodeRed_dev the problem is the .blend file has too many features and can change
having specific features and limits helps with the expectation that importing will result in the same thing every time
English

@CodeRed_dev I've had issues with Unity and animations in .blend files. Static meshes seem ok.
English

@CodeRed_dev obj has always more universal. Like if u needed to push an AutoCAD file to Maya or blender for animation
English

@CodeRed_dev The issue with .blend files that you need Blender installed on the machine for the files to do anything in an engine like Unity.
I know it's easy to just install blender, but I'd rather not have that dependancy in my projects.
English

@CodeRed_dev Yes, well, I've been using blender files straight in Unity for about 13 years now.
And while it's convenient, it can brake everything when you update blender or move your project to a different computer.
So handle with care
English

@CodeRed_dev Do you know that unity imports blend files by converting them to fbx?
And you need blender installed. That means if an artists puts .blend files in unity, programmers might not be able to run the project.
English

@CodeRed_dev Obj is universal, even a software knockoff can open it
English

@CodeRed_dev obj is great when i can take my ipad, make something in Nomad Sculpt, texture it in Procreate, throw it to Blender to modify and from there straight to UE
English

@CodeRed_dev honestly I really dont get why we use so many different file formats when you can just screenshot stuff instead. you can literally screenshot anything on your computer and send it that way
English

@CodeRed_dev Me using gltf because it's only format supported by plugin in engine I use. It's weird Frankenstein of an engine
