if you’re serious about accurate spatial representation, you must let Z be up. The insistence on Y-up is a deviation from the natural and mathematically sound approach to 3D space—a heresy born of convenience rather than correctness. It's high time we realigned our coordinate systems with the true direction of gravity and the clear, elegant structure of the physical world.

@CodeRed_dev Z is up!!!! I'll die on this hill.
Think about looking down at your piece of paper on your desk. You draw your X and Y axis on the paper like a normal graph. Z comes UP to your face. Z is the 3rd dimension!
It's also why we named ourselves Studio Z 3D lol
English

@CodeRed_dev Am I looking at something on the wall or on the floor?
If I’m looking at it on the wall, Z is not up
If I’m looking at it on the floor, Z is up
English

@CodeRed_dev Ofc Z is up in 3D world space. Because the moment you swizzle majority of your partitions as xz I can do nothing but laugh at you.
English

@CodeRed_dev Z is up for those drawing top-down plans on a table.
Y is up for those drawing side-views on a whiteboard on a YZ plane. Hmmmm….
English

@CodeRed_dev Blender taught me Z is up lol, so it surprised me that wasn't the standard lol.
English

@CodeRed_dev z IS up.
The only absolute axis in 3D on earth is gravity.
That makes it the only logical perception of “depth” along this axis.
The rest is totally arbitrary.
But you guys won. I’m on Unity nowadays 🥲
English

@CodeRed_dev nah, dude! everyone is wrong, W is up!
English

@CodeRed_dev z being up is the largest scam ever, y is up, it's so intuitive, its just right, I'll die on this hill
English

@CodeRed_dev THANK YOU. Y Up!
I am in NO WAY influenced by the fact that i'm making a side scroller and not a top down game XD
English

@CodeRed_dev Put a 2D paper grid on a table (like how we all learned about grids in school) then put something on it lol
there you go a third axis. its the same thing as a map with altitude. its the same as you standing in a tiled room.
Y being up is simply placing the paper grid on a wall

English

@CodeRed_dev Z has always been up. You Y guys are the crazy ones
English

@CodeRed_dev Nah, Y is always up.
X and Z should always be the coordinates involved in everything but height.
English

@CodeRed_dev Z is up in unreal
and because unreal engine shares a lot of dna with quake engine im inclined to believe thats where they got the orientations from
either way anyone that is not doin it the way id did is bein a obnoxious
English

@CodeRed_dev I implore everyone who thinks Z is up to look at a fucking graph.
Would you call that vertical line the Z axis? And if so, are you deranged?

English

@CodeRed_dev Our perspective is from the top, making x and y to be down and z up😂
English

@CodeRed_dev Z is altitude, I don't think you make a map with x and z coordinates 🗿
English

@CodeRed_dev I think Z being up makes more sense when it comes to making video games.
You have you map on X and Y
Then you have elevation on Z
English

@CodeRed_dev As a 3D artist, i can understand both arguments for z or y being up. Each have their own use and reason
