A few thoughts: 1. Hate the way this ended, but it was avoidable (also hear an error on the previous play could have ended it) 2. Terrible initial call (I think we all can agree on that) 3. Why are they both wearing red? We’ll never know. 4. A great lesson in playing until the very end 5. I know it’s high school, but if this catcher is starting in this sectional game, he likely should be very well versed on the dropped third strike scenarios 6. Sad that just one team member (2B) on the eventual losing team realized what was going on

@CodifyBaseball I would love to blame the umps, but home plate ump immediately made a clear and correct safe call- you can see the ump at 2B trying to tell player the ball was still live. Just a brutal ending. Umps seem to have done everything they reasonably could have to keep it from happening

@CodifyBaseball Looks like only 1 player from the eventual losing team knew what was going on and frantically was looking for thr ball to make the play.

@CodifyBaseball Why didn't the catcher throw the ball? Was the first baseman celebrating? The second baseman was the only defender who knew what was going on.

@CodifyBaseball What are the Hornell coaches arguing? They have zero reason to be talking to the ump, this is on their catcher.

@CodifyBaseball @jaysonst Difficult to see if the tag was made from the camera angle. But catcher’s gotta throw the ball.

@CodifyBaseball That’s a dream ending. A walk off 3 run strike out. Gets no better

@CodifyBaseball College players can be unaware, too. One example: 1-run game, bottom 9th, bases loaded, one out. Batter swings at strike 3 in dirt, sees ball on ground, unnecessarily runs for first. Catcher sees ball on ground, unnecessarily tags home. But wait, there's more ...

@CodifyBaseball Seemed like a terrible third strike call too.

@CodifyBaseball Strike call seemed to be bad, but it was called, ball was definitely dropped. Catcher didn't tag, and he looked around at the ump, but appeared to turn back to the pitcher just as the safe signal was given. Surprising how many don't understand the 2 out, 3rd strike drop rule

@CodifyBaseball @LanceMcAlister Gotta know the rules kids. Dropped strike 3 has always not been an out until the runner is tagged or thrown out at first.
