Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur has defended the team's strategy calls in the Monaco Grand Prix after Carlos Sainz voiced his frustrations. He said: “I think that it was a good strategy because when we asked him to pit it was to cover Hamilton, and it was to avoid [losing] a position against Hamilton," "I think it was a good call because position [is] key on track. It would have been better to extend if we [were] not at risk with Hamilton, but in this situation I think it was the good call." "We can discuss about when the rain came. It was a bet from our side, but I have no regret on this because we didn't lose position.” #F1 #MonacoGP

@FastestPitStop He's right this time. Carlos would have lost the position to Hamilton, they did the right call and he didn't. He acknowledged that in the post race interviews

@FastestPitStop This just shows that Ferrari is not looking to attack and happy with holding on to position. The change in leadership hasn’t brought any change at all. Feel sorry for Charles. He’s not going to win any WDC with this defensive team.

This is one of the very rare cases where the team, though criticized, did not make a mistake. They had to protect the position or Hamilton would have passed. Then, given the situation at this time, it is understandable that Sainz does not trust blindly but this time his anger is unjustified.

@FastestPitStop Yup. That wasnt the real issue. They shouldve gone on inters a lap before ocon but instead they went long and he ran off

@FastestPitStop He's right here. They could've let Sainz go longer cause he was in clean air and doing good lap times but it would be a moot discussion if he didn't crash into ocon

@FastestPitStop Does Sainz care more about finishing ahead of Charles than the competition.

@FastestPitStop Don't agree. There was several options to do + they knew rain is coming for sure.

@FastestPitStop I’m a Ferrari fan but Ferrari started from positions 4, 6 and ended up at 6, 8. Factually, the Monaco GP was a failure for Ferrari and I’d prefer if the team acknowledged it and learn from it.

@FastestPitStop As a driver had to be mentally challenging to be race for Ferrari. Not attacking an Alpine is just nuts. I see why engineers leave Ferrari to other minor teams...

@FastestPitStop They must have money issues or something to be so conservative in the car. A good wreck costs what... a million to fix up. They just seem tentative.

@FastestPitStop Ferrari race pace always worse than quali. They can only go backwards during the race. Thus why the team is focusing more on minimising the track position lost rather than attacking.
