@Jackbmeyer For comparison, if you travel from Copenhagen to Aalborg (192 miles), it'll cost you $87.
And Danish trains are quite comfortable with free internet.
Also, Denmark is one of the most expensive countries in the world.
@Jackbmeyer Not this whining again. Amtrak does surge pricing. If you wait until days or even weeks before to buy it, you will pay the price. Amtrak had record ridership this year. It's a popular way to travel. Plan ahead to get a cheaper fare.
@Jackbmeyer I took an Uber from Mattapoisett, MA to Manhattan this summer and it was way cheaper and more convenient than plane or train. Really weird.
@Jackbmeyer it does if you book it far enough out but unfortunately high demand and inelastic schedules mean it’s often insanely expensive close to the travel date
@Jackbmeyer This is “surveillance pricing” I believe. If you didn’t clean out your cache or delete your cookies, they know that you’ve already researched this and are ready to buy. Hence the extortion pricing. Both @SenRubenGallego and @RepRashida have pending bills to ban this.
@Jackbmeyer I’ve considered Oakland → LA via Amtrak many times but always choose flying, which is both cheaper and faster. But Amtrak is not really trying to compete on cost or speed. Rather, they aim to deliver a unique experience.
@Jackbmeyer I think companies are testing to see how much we are willing to pay. I've seen sudden price changes on alot of things. Most recently on priceline. At check up the price went up 10.00. I backed out waited a little then did it again. Price stayed the lower price.
@Jackbmeyer I’m a MetroNorth traveler more than anything and was beyond shocked when I learned how much Amtrak is costing people. The same ticket I’d buy for like $25 is like $100 on Amtrak it’s insane
@Jackbmeyer Amtrak prices are in buckets. As each bucket sells out it goes to the next more expensive one. So last minute fares are a lot more expensive, like airlines. But at least with Amtrak if you know how it works you can get it cheaper either by buying early or using an off peak time.
@Jackbmeyer Meanwhile, I just got an Amtrak ticket with these exact parameters for $15 (it was also the last ticket available). The Amtrak algorithm is a complete mystery to me.
@Jackbmeyer I'm 2007ish, my sister and I took a Greyhound from Northern California to Middle California. A couple years later we needed to do the same. We realized at that time flying was significantly cheaper.
@Jackbmeyer Wait why is train travel MORE expensive than flights?
That's the entire reason to travel by train, because it's orders of magnitude cheaper?
I'm assuming this is in the US?
@Jackbmeyer 😆 🤣 😂 in the UK it's cheaper to fly from London to Glasgow-Edinburgh-Aberdeen ...
Than get the train
& the Kicker you can fly to Spain cheaper than Scotland 😳😲🤯
@Jackbmeyer With Amtrak, you need to purchase NEC tickets well in advance. It cost me $22 to go from Philly to DC for the WWE event. It would have been around $130 for the exact same seat if I'd booked the week of the show instead of right after I bought the tickets in the presale.
@Jackbmeyer Amtrak is poorly managed like all government agencies. They tell customers to download their app for current information about delays, then never update the information. Horrible experience.
