Alternatively, if we were to give a new name to what we now call JavaScript, what could it be? (ECMAScript never caught on in a popular sense, to cut that one off at the pass.) twitter.com/getify/status/…
not just pixels@getifyX

I think it's time for someone to challenge Oracle on their trademark and claim that "JavaScript" has lost its protected status b/c they didn't defend it enough. It's common place now. twitter.com/benschwarz/sta…

@JavaScriptDaily I do think ”js” should be preserved. It’s stronger than all of us... Some ideas: jsonlang, jase, Jason, jslang, jay-script or J-script

@JavaScriptDaily JelloScript - the .js suffix would stay the same :P and JS would finally get a mascot, it so needs.

@JavaScriptDaily Almost any name would be better than JavaScript due the confusion that name has caused for two decades. The name strongly implies a technical connection to Java where none exists. ECMAScript is a dreadful name and will never roll off the tongue. Changing is super difficult.

@JavaScriptDaily I believe that people who already work with ecmascript already know about its meaning.

@JavaScriptDaily Could go back to Mocha or MochaScript. It would be a nightmare making the switch though. JavaScript is too ubiquitous

@JavaScriptDaily Something without "script" in the name. It should also not imply browser or node environments.
