@Naufilzak Great question. I don’t think of it in terms of removing the shame but more so acknowledging its presence. It’s about the relationship we create with shame and getting curious when it appears rather than shutting down.

@AimTrue7 Is it possible for somebody who had toxic shame as a child to go into same situation now as an adult & feel safe & comfortable & remove that shame ?

The opposite of trauma and shame is flow. Trauma & shame put the body into a freeze state. Restoring flow & movement in the body is important to recovery. This will look different for each person. Take time to explore how your body wants to move.

@Markmanson We create our readiness. Many confuse being ready with everything being perfect. It’s ok to start and be messy.

The people who wait until they're “ready” never are. ㅤ The people who just start realize they could have been “ready” any time they wanted.

So often the very strategy we use to avoid our pain, ends up becoming a source of pain.

Recovery requires action. Action is not always bold and big. Often it’s soft and subtle.

@TheLastPageTurn Discernment is such a powerful part of healing. You’re right there will be times to surrender and times to push through. Surrendering to your own inner wisdom & guidance is where your power lives. A question to ask: What feels right for me in this moment?

@AimTrue7 Since I’m still a student, I’ve noticed that letting go sometimes feels counterintuitive… how do you decide when to surrender and when to act?

Wanting to be the gatekeeper of everything & everyone is a way to seek control. That control takes you further and further away from connection.

@lawrencekitema Focusing on others is a way to avoid your own internal conflict. Often it’s not about keeping busy but rather slowing down to listen to what’s happening within.

Make yourself so busy, so disciplined, and so determined that you don’t have time to worry about what’s happening in other people’s lives, make pointless comparisons, or form irrational opinions. Stay focused and devoted to yourself.

Shadows of Control
Shadows of Control@shadows_control·
Abuse doesn’t just hurt—it rewires how we think, teaching us to rationalize, excuse, or minimize the harm to survive; survivors often tell themselves “it’s not that bad,” “if I just try harder,” or cling to the intermittent kindness, all while internalizing blame and thinking they’re broken, yet with distance, support, and self-compassion, it’s possible to rewrite these survival narratives, recognize that the abuse was never their fault, and begin healing. #SurvivorStrength shadowsofcontrol.substack.com/p/the-things-w…

@PsycheWizard Wise people change their minds. As you heal and evolve your opinions/perspectives change, that’s a sign of growth.
