Over 1M people already signed the petition to suspend the 🇪🇺–🇮🇱 Association Agreement over Israel's human rights violations. Help us reach 1.5M! We’ve been calling for this since May last year: it’s long overdue for EU member states to act. Sign it here:eci.ec.europa.eu/055/public/#/s…

EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid 🇪🇺
Another unacceptable loss of a @RedCrossLebanon aid worker. The EU calls once again for full respect of International Humanitarian Law and for the protection of all civilians, including those risking their lives to help others.

📍Lebanon | We are deeply distressed by the killing of @RedCrossLebanon paramedic Hassan Badawi, who succumbed to injuries sustained from a strike while carrying out an emergency rescue mission in the Bint Jbeil district in southern Lebanon. We mourn this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and his colleagues. Our thoughts are also with another Lebanese Red Cross colleague who was injured in the same incident. Saving lives must never cost a life. Humanitarian and medical personnel must be protected.

You cannot bomb your way to trust, nor can you shoot your way to lasting safety. The history of the Middle East has reminded us of this truth time and again. Every new act of violence deepens wounds, fuels resentment, and sows the seeds of conflict for years to come. If we seek a future free of fear and mourning, we must first stop feeding the flames of hate and violence. The path forward, our only path forward, is the hard, courageous choice to build peace. #ChoosePeace

Bombing a hospital or a school isn't a "miscalculation." Killing a paramedic isn't "collateral damage." Starving civilians isn't "negotiating tactic." These are war crimes. Full stop. Call it what it is.

The killings in the last 24 hours of 14 health workers in southern #Lebanon mark a tragic development in the escalating Middle East crisis. @WHO has confirmed that 12 doctors, paramedics and nurses were killed in a strike late last night on the Bourj Qalaouiyeh primary healthcare center. Just hours earlier, two paramedics lost their lives in attacks on a health facility in Al Sowana. These incidents highlight the ongoing assault on Lebanon’s healthcare system, which is crucial for the populations it serves. Since March 2, WHO has verified 27 attacks on healthcare in Lebanon, resulting in 30 deaths and 35 injuries, including the horrifying events of Friday. WHO condemns this tragic loss of life and emphasizes that health workers must always be protected. According to international humanitarian law, medical personnel and facilities should never be attacked or militarized. The intensification of conflict in Lebanon and the broader Middle East increases the likelihood of such tragedies. Urgent action is required to de-escalate the crisis and protect the health of people throughout the region.

Global military expenditure just hit $2.7 trillion - in a single year. According to @UN estimates, ending world hunger by 2030 would require $93 billion annually. That means we spend almost 30 times more every year on killing each other than on making sure everyone eats. Numbers don't lie. Our priorities do.

The conflict in the Middle East is having an impact on health care in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the availability of supplies, access to care, and evacuations. In Gaza, most crossings remain closed. Medical evacuations have been suspended since 28 February, and rotations of Emergency Medical Teams are on hold. Essential medicines and medical supplies, including antibiotics and medicines for chronic conditions, are running low. Fuel is being prioritized for the facilities that need it most in order to keep life-saving health services running. Only the Kerem Shalom crossing reopened on 3 March to allow the entry of some fuel and humanitarian aid. In the West Bank, checkpoint closures and movement restrictions are obstructing access to health care. Ambulances are taking longer to reach patients as they must use longer routes and search for accessible gates. Even before this escalation, medical supplies were in short supply and health workers were receiving only partial salaries, affecting the functioning of health facilities. WHO calls for the opening of all routes into the Gaza Strip, unimpeded movement of medical supplies and health workers across the occupied Palestinian territory, and the protection of health care. More importantly, WHO calls for immediate de-escalation in the region by all parties. The bravest choose peace. The @UN Charter is the foundation of international relations, the bedrock of peace, sustainable development & human rights. When leaders run roughshod over international law, picking & choosing which rules to follow – they are undermining global order & setting a perilous precedent. When a handful of individuals can bend global narratives, sway elections, or dictate the terms of public debate, we are facing inequality and the corruption of institutions & our shared values. The Charter is a compact which binds us all. All countries must adhere to it, fully & faithfully.

I strongly condemn the Israeli authorities’ actions to demolish the @UNRWA Sheikh Jarrah compound, which remains @UN premises. The continued escalatory actions against UNRWA are unacceptable & inconsistent with Israel’s clear obligations under international law. I urge the Government of Israel to immediately cease the demolition & to return the compound & other UNRWA premises to the UN. un.org/sg/en/content/…

As of today, a majority of the EU member states recognize the Palestinian state. There is only one way forward—the two-State solution. A secure and recognized State of Israel. An independent, democratic, viable State of Palestine. Living side by side. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…
