"Take Me to Broadway" from Small Town Girl (1953) is an absolute delight.
Bobby Van tears through the number with infectious energy, dancing and singing his way around his father's shop while showing off for a crowd of admiring girls.
What strikes me is how he blends the easygoing charm of Donald O'Connor with the pinpoint precision of Fred Astaire.
It's playful, athletic, and wonderfully entertaining; a reminder that Van was one of the great, often overlooked musical performers of Hollywood's Golden Age.

1960s. It began for John Schlesinger as a second unit director filming John Drake's arrival in Portmeirion and making TV documentaries. By the end of the decade he had shot A Kind of Loving, Billy Liar, Darling, Far From the Madding Crowd and won an Oscar for Midnight Cowboy.

Don’t know if it’s the best; just rewatched “Winchester ‘73” and that’s definitely a contender. But “Bend of the River” is definitely my favorite, perhaps because of the two-sides-of-the-coin relationship between Stewart’s man-with-a-past character and Arthur Kennedy’s.

Bend of the River is certainly of James Stewart's best Westerns. I just rewatched the five Mann films again and thought The Far Country was the best (the only flaw being the rushing ending).

The ’66 BATMAN show’s animated opening was done by Lee Mishkin, who later won an Oscar for his short “Is It Always Right to Be Right?”. And that classic theme was by Neal Hefti - a 12-bar blues riff (and a surf-style banger).
