@CelluloidEchoes Years ago I read an interview with Van where he said he felt lousy for a week or two after filming this number.

"Take Me to Broadway" from Small Town Girl (1953) is an absolute delight. Bobby Van tears through the number with infectious energy, dancing and singing his way around his father's shop while showing off for a crowd of admiring girls. What strikes me is how he blends the easygoing charm of Donald O'Connor with the pinpoint precision of Fred Astaire. It's playful, athletic, and wonderfully entertaining; a reminder that Van was one of the great, often overlooked musical performers of Hollywood's Golden Age. #HollywoodMusical #SmallTownGirl

@classic_film Had the honor of interviewing Burt Bacharach, then reviewing his concert at Las Vegas’ then-new performing arts center. In my review, I lamented that he didn’t have time to play all his hits …

@Noirchick1 I inherited this beautiful, perfect little typewriter, it has an integrated hard travel case, it must have been for a field reporter. If you have friends in your circle that collect these, let me know, it needs a good home.

1960s. It began for John Schlesinger as a second unit director filming John Drake's arrival in Portmeirion and making TV documentaries. By the end of the decade he had shot A Kind of Loving, Billy Liar, Darling, Far From the Madding Crowd and won an Oscar for Midnight Cowboy.

Don’t know if it’s the best; just rewatched “Winchester ‘73” and that’s definitely a contender. But “Bend of the River” is definitely my favorite, perhaps because of the two-sides-of-the-coin relationship between Stewart’s man-with-a-past character and Arthur Kennedy’s.
Classic Film TV Cafe@classic_film

Bend of the River is certainly of James Stewart's best Westerns. I just rewatched the five Mann films again and thought The Far Country was the best (the only flaw being the rushing ending).

@DannyDeraney I haven’t seen this “SNL” episode in 50 years, but I still remember many of the instant-classic skits, including Madeline Kahn writing as Pat Nixon during “The Final Days” of the Nixon administration.

50 years ago today, Madeline Kahn hosted SNL. Gilda as Baba Wawa, interviews Madeline as Marlene Dietrich. And neither understands what they are saying. 😂

@ATRightMovies When “Batman” first hit the airwaves, we neighborhood kids were so excited we gathered at my house for a theme song sing-along — while I banged out the melody on the family piano.

The ’66 BATMAN show’s animated opening was done by Lee Mishkin, who later won an Oscar for his short “Is It Always Right to Be Right?”. And that classic theme was by Neal Hefti - a 12-bar blues riff (and a surf-style banger).

Fond memories of my mom — who bought Gleem toothpaste — a brand our family never used — just so my sister and I would have the requisite proof-of-purchase so we could send away for a genuine, authentic autographed picture of Batman and Robin.

Batman won our #LiveActionSuperheroTVseries Tournament Championship in convincing fashion over The Adventures of Superman. But there are no losers in this tournament, which provided an opportunity to discuss these iconic TV heroes that help us make sense of the world.

@pkhinkle @classic_film We kids were so into “Batman” that everybody gathered at our house to listen to me play the theme song on our piano (sort of) while we all sang along. (I also kept a list of Robin’s various “Holy —Batman,” in my school notebook.)

@classic_film Loved them both—huge part of my growing up. But it’s Batman, Robin and the many delightful outlandish villains that get quoted in our house, so that gets the nod.

It's time to vote in the #LiveActionSuperheroTVseries Tournament Championship! Voting ends at 10:30pm EST tonight. Will the Caped Crusader's first TV series prevail? Of will it be the Man of Steel propelling his adventures to the winner's circle?

“Winchester ‘73” has several standouts, but tough to top James Stewart vs. Stephen McNally’s climactic confrontation.

#5DayWesternMovieChallenge, Day #3: Name your favorite Western movie showdown! It can be a one-on-one faceoff, a shoot-out with multiple people, a fistfight, or even a verbal confrontation. My pick: Harmonica vs. Frank in Once Upon a Time in the West.
