@franchiseguy @Farm4ProfitLLC Agreed. My additional comment was large well managed farms are called “corporate” when in reality they are family owned with everyone contributing a different skill set.

@ChetEdinger @Farm4ProfitLLC For clarity, I'm specifically talking about those farms that operate like a business. You know....the ones that have a P&L and know how to manage it. The kind that have a balance sheet & know how to utilize it. Those kind will survive is my guess.

The farms that survive the next 10 years won’t be the biggest. They’ll be the ones that know their numbers better than anyone else. What’s one number every farmer should know daily?

I'm staying at Beaches Resort in Turks and Caicos, and I just can't stop thinking about the HR logistics and maintenance to make a facility like this run. I keep asking people questions about: - How many employees they have? - How many rooms do they turnover each day? - How they handle leftover food? - How long people have worked here? - And on and on! All in all, coming to a place like this is like killing two birds with one stone. Most of it is about having fun with family and enjoying the weather, but I also get to fulfill some of my intellectual curiosity when it comes to how big businesses operate! (I like my small teams that work on "digital real estate"!)

Further ominous developments today. For first time, Iran successfully targeted oil/gas production facilities (rather than refining, terminals and storage): Oil and gas field in the UAE (Shah) hit Oil field in Iraq (Majnoon) attacked Plus Saudi Arabia saw large drone swarms
Javier Blas@JavierBlas

Iran has started a new phase of its oil war: Tehran is clearly going after the Strait of Hormuz bypass route, with Fujairah (UAE) coming under attack. But so far, the Saudi pipeline bypass hasn't been attacked (and neither the Yemeni Houthis have tried to close the Red Sea).

@RinnyTheGopher @toiletkingcap I remember the fuel shortage/gas lines in ‘74. It prompted my dad, who always bought American made cars, to switch to buying foreign made cars. Fuel consumption was the #1 reason for the switch.

Shouldn’t EV stonks be up right now? Electricity prices were not helping for a while there but now gasoline looks like a stupid fuel to depend on. Those of us old enough to remember the 70s know we would have bought electric cars all day long rather than sit in those damn lines.

@EquipProChina It looks dry. But soil probe shows adequate moisture in the profile.

@ChetEdinger 🌱 Nice! Looks like spring is in full swing in SD. Getting a good start on #application26, that's great to hear! Fingers crossed for a successful 2026 crop 😊. How's the moisture looking?

Spring has arrived in SD. We got a nice start on #application26 this week. Things are looking good for the 2026 crop at this point.

@JackieSpackle The state DNR cleared us of any wrongdoing. He had a difference of opinion. I guess the courts will decide now.

@wind4me We bought all our NH3 last fall. We have storage for 350 tons on farm. We did just buy some Urea and Potash recently. So a mixed bag. Ya prices sucked then and they suck even worse now. 🤷‍♂️

You know what little known corners are talking about? It is the ridiculous amount of fertilizer inputs that transverse the Strait of Hormuz.

@ChetEdinger @JJ_TERP @FrankMasters64 I just can't wrap my head around a price hike happening so fast. Are we really that vulnerable? I know we are with food but I didn't think we were with other things.

Today is the day when you find out if your fertilizer supplier has your back. Well…if you’re not 100% booked for spring at this point. Lots of sheds full from winter fill. Now it’s a question if that full shed is all sold or not. NOLA spot for Urea up 17.5% this morning

Depends on your location and what “normally” happens with your supplier. Most unsold tons are now spoken for as of today in my area. Additional tons will need to be brought in at a higher price. The question is when are those additional tons needed? Will war be done by then? I wouldn’t want to bet either way.

I know nothing about buying the amount of fertilizer you usually buy, but when I heard "wartime premium" on fertilizer this morning, I rolled my eyes. Then my husband and I debated on just how much fertilizer is stock piled. Good to hear they should at least have enough to cover spring. But how much beyond that do you think they could produce before actually feeling a shortage due to "war"?

@ChetEdinger @shilowj Good time to partner with a local dairy farmer or contract hog facility. We have enough manure that fertilizer is unnecessary.
