Looking at the replies, I now realize that the majority of people are unable to comprehend irony.
The joke is that the anti-gay faction of the Republican Party is often gay themselves, despite viewing it as wrong.
It highlights the contradiction in their derogatory views of gay people.
That doesn’t mean the person making the joke views gay people derogatorily.
I’m actually shocked that this needs to be explained.
