$ASTS: @Rakuten_Mobile CEO @hmikitani told Nikkei that national security is a big reason behind the move. “It’s extremely critical to start a service backed largely by Japanese capital,” he said. The partnership will give Rakuten and its Japanese partners roughly equal ownership, with Rakuten taking the lead on day-to-day operations. The new satellite phone service will begin rolling out at the end of 2026, with nationwide coverage 2027 targeted for fiscal 2027. Hiroshi Mikitani also hinted at future international expansion through the joint venture. asiabusinessoutlook.com/news/rakuten-p…

$ASTS ✨ receives an important regulatory boost in Japan. Japan’s Information and Communications Council approved the use of the 700MHz spectrum for direct communications between low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and smartphones. ✅ 700MHz direct-to-cell framework approved ✅ Related regulations expected to be updated in September ✅ Rakuten plans to establish a joint venture with AST SpaceMobile this year ✅ Commercial service targeted to begin within 2026 ✅ Standard smartphones supported ✅ Expanded coverage for rural, mountainous, island, and disaster-affected areas KDDI, NTT Docomo, and SoftBank currently offer satellite connectivity through SpaceX Starlink. Rakuten plans to build its own direct-to-cell service in partnership with AST SpaceMobile. This regulatory development represents a positive step toward AST SpaceMobile’s commercialization roadmap in Japan. nikkei.com/article/DGXZQO… $ASTS #ASTSpaceMobile #Rakuten #DirectToCell #Satellite #SpaceTech

The person running $QS has spent nearly 40 years turning hard technology into something a factory can build at scale. Siva Sivaram started at Intel $INTC in 1986 and stayed 13 years. He left to become COO of Matrix Semiconductor, which pioneered 3D non-volatile memory and was sold to SanDisk $SNDK in 2006. He ran a unit at $SNDK , then founded Twin Creeks Technologies in 2008, a solar cell and equipment maker he led as CEO for five years. He returned to $SNDK in 2013 as EVP of Memory Technology. When Western Digital $WDC acquired $SNDK in 2016, he rose through the company, ending as President of Technology and Strategy. He joined $QS as President in September 2023 and became CEO in February 2024, taking over from founder Jagdeep Singh, who moved to Chairman. Every one of those roles was the same job underneath. Take a difficult emerging technology and scale it into mass production. That is exactly the wall $QS sits in front of with solid-state batteries. He is also a materials scientist by training, with a PhD from Rensselaer. For a company that lives or dies on materials and manufacturing, that background fits. Bullish on the operator. Patient on the timeline. Anyone else holding $QS for the long haul? It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.

Most people still price $QS as a battery maker that is late to revenue. Wrong frame. QuantumScape is an intellectual property company, and the batteries just prove the patents work. I went through it patent by patent. Part 1 of 3 is up: what QS actually owns, more than 400 patents and applications, and the crown jewel, the ceramic separator, plus the two patents and the two ceramics giants, Corning $GLW and Murata, that make it manufacturable. Parts 2 and 3 are linked in the replies. Would you rather own the battery factory, or the patents every factory has to license? It's not a sprint, it's a marathon.

Updated the $QS Partner Engagement Pathway for better clarity! We still have 2 Top 10 OEMs in the JRA/JDA stage to uncover. My bet: Ford for the North American spot, and Nissan for the other. What are your predictions? Your analyses are always welcome! I see a lot of theories about Hyundai. I know there are some obvious connections with Korea, but for those who believe it's them, what concrete elements are driving your thesis?

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
Today, the first milestone test of Golden Dome for America (GDA) was a full mission success — and I was honored to witness it firsthand. Cutting edge directed energy was harnessed and the Dynamic Defense Autonomous Defeat (DDAD) system flawlessly and autonomously cued, targeted, and eliminated a multitude of incoming threats. This test was executed on schedule — and dynamically defeated every threat. I watched our elite warfighters integrate with next-generation technology to stop incoming drones and cruise missiles dead in their tracks. Traditional Primes and emerging Primes are competing, collaborating, and winning—delivering on President Trump’s priority. This historic milestone was only made possible by the One Big Beautiful Bill—giving us the funding to deliver on the ultimate shield to protect America. President Trump is making President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) vision a reality. With Golden Dome, the War Department will defend our homeland more powerfully than ever before. Golden Dome is real, powerful, and on track.

$ASTS: Will AST SpaceMobile's cellular broadband service that connects directly to existing mobile phones going to change the world? Yes ✅A proposed House amendment from Rep. Dave Min would require the State Department—working with the FCC and Treasury—to report on how satellite and direct-to-cell technology could help preserve internet access in Iran during government shutdowns. ✅The report would assess whether direct-to-cell satellite connectivity could expand internet access for Iranians, including the technical, regulatory, security and economic challenges. It would also examine: • Iranian signal jamming and countermeasures • Drone-based threats • The resilience of LEO satellite networks • Physical and digital risks to users • The cost of providing service per user ✅Importantly, the amendment asks the government to evaluate how effectively LEO satellite internet served Iranians during the January 2026 protests—and what technological improvements are needed to resist future jamming. ✅The report would also consider whether commercially available, off-the-shelf technologies could qualify for U.S. grants if they: • Enable unrestricted internet access • Integrate with devices already available in Iran • Protect user data • Resist government countermeasures 👉This could create a meaningful policy pathway for funding and deploying satellite-enabled internet—including direct-to-cell services—in countries where governments routinely shut down or censor communications. $ASTS This is VERY interesting. 520 dedicated shell and 15 👀 degrees elevation angle. It results in a footprint the size of Japan from 520km. Roughly the size AST can do from 690 if using 20 degree cutoff. I visualize this in the attached sketches. 1/n

$ASTS I have speculated for a while that AST intends to operate down to a minimum elevation angle of 15 degrees, if interference environment allows it, for low and mid band. Thanks to these J-LEO and Japan 700MHz docs, I feel even more confident about it. (Translation and orig)
