@OverReactor1776 To the "nuclear is scary crowd", what do you think all the Navy's aircraft carriers and submarines operate on since the 1970's? Small nuclear reactos..when have we had a meltdown there, all the while operating in hostile oceanic environments? Get a fucking grip. It is the key...

Now that I’m out of government, I can finally respond for myself: Get bent, soyboy. We didn’t do this for “Silicon Valley . . . companies.” We did this for you, for your family, your community, your state, your nation, and your species. Nuclear energy provides the safest, highest density, reliable power available on our planet. My career colleagues at DOE and NRC inspired me to think about nuclear as a way to forge American steel and electrolyze aluminum without releasing particulate matter, to desalinate water in the Middle East and save humanity from resource wars. By rejecting the false narratives and Cold War hysteria, we can secure the next American century while raising whole countries out of poverty. Do you really think I left an incredible career at Kirkland, paid out of pocket for an apartment in DC and dozens of cross-country trips, and left my family on the west coast because I wanted to enrich people I never met before taking this job? I came to D.C. to do something that mattered, to satisfy a driving curiosity (more on that later), and, most importantly, to serve. As I learned more about nuclear energy and its history, I developed a conviction that one nuclear’s biggest issues was a culture of cynicism: nothing new or exciting could happen because it would end in disappointment, and that militated against rocking the boat even a tiny bit. The career staff in government and their industry counterparts lived through dark winters before and stopped believing that warm springs could bloom into summers. I have two core philosophies. First, I believe in ruthless optimism. Rational decision making requires detached risk analysis. But we also cannot win if we believe we can lose. Merging the two requires orienting teams around driving missions. That way, when a real opportunity presents itself, you can take a huge swing. If I take credit for anything—honestly, almost all of the success belongs to the incredible and dedicated people at @ENERGY and @NRCgov—it’s countering the cultural rot and morass that risked forfeiting American excellence. My colleagues and I gave cover to the scientists and engineers, which freed them up to focus on delivering safe power. And, as success materialized, they started to dream again. That’s why the pilot program succeeded, and why I feel confident about the future of NLICs and NRC reform. Nobody needs me anymore because they can innovate on their own. My second core philosophy is to assume positive intent. Avi, I know that you heard about my real motivations from multiple people you interviewed when preparing your hit piece on me. Rather than telling that story, one which could help inspire another generation of people to use their talents for the greater good, you ignored them. Instead, you implied that Peter Thiel recruited me for nefarious purposes. (I’ve never met him, but, @peterthiel, if you’re reading this, I’m a huge fan!) Nuclear regulation starts and ends with safety. I promised everyone I worked with that I would resign before doing or pushing for anything that could compromise public safety. But I also distinguished between real safety and performative bullshit. That’s what the careers came to embrace, too. We love nuclear, why would we do anything that could risk threatening its future? America faces a crossroads. We can either trod a road of cultural decay or hike our way back to the peak of global innovation. Join me on the latter path. Correct the fear mongering and conspiracies and tell the story of America’s great reindustrialization. Tell the story of our public servants, our great entrepreneurs, our scientific dominance. Tell the real story about how DOGE went nuclear.
Avi Asher-Schapiro@AASchapiro

Seth Cohen—the DOGE official who was a driving force behind much of the Trump admin's nuclear energy policy—resigned. He was one of the key figures reshaping the regulatory environment to benefit Silicon Valley-backed advanced reactor firms. x.com/OverReactor177…

What terrifies me about this is the potential backlash against peaceful white people. Imagine if Muslims started mass-murdering Germans at Christmas markets, raping English teenage girls, stabbing Irish schoolchildren, or blowing up cars in Sweden?

Better just to send money directly to the people from the Treasury. So long as the increase in goods & services exceeds the increase in the money supply, which will be the case with AI & robots, there will not be inflation. In fact, my prediction is that we will desperately be fighting deflation!

BREAKING: JD Vance just admitted the White House plan is to take ownership of every major AI company in America. This is the largest reshaping of American capitalism since the New Deal. And almost no one in finance is talking about it yet. Here's why this is a much bigger story than it sounds: Vance didn't pull this idea out of nowhere. He said it on the latest "The Diary of a CEO" this week: "The president is supportive of the United States owning these big AI companies. He likes the idea as sort of a sovereign wealth fund idea of the United States taking some stake in these AI companies." Read that again. The Vice President of the United States confirmed the administration wants equity in OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI. Not regulate them. Not tax them. Own them. It gets crazier. The host pointed out that Bernie Sanders wants the public to own 50% of AI companies. Vance's response: "He likes that idea. I don't know that he would say 50% but he does like that idea." And the template already exists: Last August, the Trump administration converted Intel's CHIPS Act grants into equity. The government took a 10% stake. Cost basis: $20.47 per share. Total investment: $8.9 billion. Intel closed Thursday at $133.82. That stake is now worth $67 billion. A $58 billion gain in 10 months. A 650% return. Now they're running it on AI. Let's do the math on what that means: OpenAI is valued at $852 billion. Anthropic is fielding $800 billion bids on the secondary market. xAI merged into SpaceX at $1.25 trillion. SpaceX IPO'd and closed day one near $2.1 trillion. Add Meta AI, Google DeepMind, and the AWS infrastructure layer. You're staring at $5 trillion in AI value openly being considered for partial nationalization. A 10% stake across that universe is $500 billion. Bigger than every hedge fund in America combined. Vance laid out the reasoning himself. The industrial revolution made rich people way richer. Workers stagnated. The political consequences were catastrophic. His exact words: "We're going to wake up and we're going to realize that rich people have gotten way richer." Translation: the White House thinks letting OpenAI and Anthropic compound into multi-trillion dollar monopolies is a political time bomb. Their solution isn't to break them up. It's to own them. This is a completely different relationship between the state and capital than anything Wall Street has modeled. For 40 years, the Republican playbook was simple. Deregulate, cut taxes, let founders capture the upside. What Vance just described is the opposite... The line between US AI policy and US AI ownership disappears. The investors who survive this aren't the ones guessing which lab Washington takes first. They're the ones whose strategy was already running before the headline hit. Rules based. Automated. Indifferent to whatever the Vice President said on a podcast at midnight. That's exactly what Surmount was built for...

I watched Citizen Vigilante on Amazon Prime (Banned in Germany). The US/Canadian release is today. It is playing at a tiny number of theaters and is available on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Fandango. Amazon Prime charges $6.99 and you can watch it for 30 days. It was entertaining. There definitely are not any boring parts. It is not a mega-budget movie from one of Hollywood's Big Five. More like an adequately funded indie movie. The character is like the Punisher, but with a wealthy background like Batman. Unlike Batman, there is no personal catalyst like the Joker killing his parents. The main character is obsessed with wanting a high trust society. He is also angry about blind obedience to authority. He believes the people in power don't give a shit about you and law enforcement and the justice system exist more to control the law abiding than to stop, catch, or punish actual criminals. The film was effectively banned in "democratic" Germany by the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft [FSK]. This is Germany's version of America's Classification and Rating Administration [CARA]. Both the FSK and CARA are billed as independent, voluntary, private regulatory boards free of government imposed censorship. However, in the case of the FSK, they have been empowered by the German government to completely block a movie from being shown in theaters, sold on DVD, or streamed in Germany. It is a way for a movie to be banned, while the German government says, "we didn't ban anything, we had nothing to do with it." The FSK is allowed to simply refuse issuing any rating and it is illegal to exhibit, sell, or stream the movie. What makes the film unique, and why it is banned in Germany, is twofold. It is inspired by real-life crimes. However, unlike the BBC in Britain or American media companies, the filmmakers do not race-swap all the non-White criminals into White people. The criminals in the movie are a mix of African, Middle Eastern, and White Europeans. Second, unlike traditional vigilante movies, the main character goes after both the criminals and the people in the criminal justice system who coddle and protect them. In one scene, it shows a judge explaining to the media how a group of teenage immigrant gang rapists are just as much victims as the 14-year-old girl they brutally raped. Sending them to jail would supposedly just make things worse. The scene is based on real dialogue from real judges. I believe this is what sparked the meltdown at the FSK.

🚨 BOMBSHELL SCOTUS DECISION JUST DROPPED! 🚨 In a UNANIMOUS ruling, the Supreme Court just STRIPPED the federal government’s power to disarm millions of Americans for marijuana use! The 1968 law that banned gun ownership for “unlawful users” of controlled substances? Ruled unconstitutional when applied to habitual cannabis users. This is the same law they tried to use against Hunter Biden. A Texas man just won his Second Amendment rights back. The Court just said: You can’t treat pot smokers like violent felons. Big Win for the Constitution. Massive L for gun-grabbing overreach. Marijuana users: your 2A rights are BACK. 🔥 What do you think — should this apply to ALL drugs? Or just weed? 👇 #SCOTUS #2A #Marijuana #GunRights #Breaking

UPDATE: California Gov. @GavinNewsom’s spokesperson says the governor opposes a proposal from organizers of the billionaires tax measure that would remove a one-time 5% wealth tax from the ballot in exchange for Newsom signing a law imposing a one-time 2% wealth tax on California billionaires. From a Newsom spokesperson: “The Governor has been clear that he is strongly opposed to a California-only wealth tax.  The Governor supports making the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share, but this poorly designed state-only measure will defund teachers, schools, clinics, and public safety.  Changing the tax rate doesn’t change this measure’s fundamental flaws that harm working Californians.”
Eytan Wallace@EytanWallace

JUST IN: In an open letter to California Gov. @GavinNewsom, organizers of the billionaires tax proposal say they are willing to withdraw their ballot measure proposing a 5% tax on the global assets of California billionaires *if* Newsom signs legislation creating a one-time 2% tax on California billionaires instead. The deadline to reach an agreement: June 25. Organizers add the 2% proposal is "not the end of the conversation" but rather "the beginning." See below:
